After Shopping, you can go out to the deck of the Riverwalk Market place and watch the boats pass by. PERSONAL ESSAY Write a formal essay (minimum of 300 words). You must submit a typed copy and a handwritten copy of your essay. Essays will be judged on content, style, spelling and grammar. 8 SECTION 7 GUDELINES FOR WRITING YOUR ESSAY C-CAP will consider the content and quality of your essay. Your essay is a reflection of you. Aim for an essay that shows you are neat, thoughtful and well organized! Follow these guidelines: ESSAY REQUIREMENTS: Your essay must be at least 300 words. It can be longer. See the next page for the content you must include in your essay. You must provide both a TYPED copy of your essay. The typed copy of your essay must be printed on white unlined paper. DO s Write a rough draft of your essay. Ask a teacher, friend or family member to read your essay. Use the feedback to improve your essay. DON TS Make changes and corrections. Then write a second draft. Show that you put thought, time and effort into your essay. Make it interesting to read. Express your ideas, experiences and feelings. Don t misspell words. (Use the spelling check on your computer!) Don t use slang or improper English. (If you are not sure how to write something correctly, look in a dictionary, grammar book or ask your English teacher.) Don t just type word for word your research on the topic you re writing about. Write thoughtfully and honestly. Essay Topics Below is essential information to include in your essay. This is your chance to tell us about yourself and your interest in the culinary industry. Let the reader know something about your life and why you re interested in going to the trip to New Orleans OR write about one of the topics listed below. Tell us about you and how Cajun/Creole food has influenced your life or Culinary Point of View. Write about the History of the Beignet Is Cajun food French or Southern? New Orleans has an amazing amount of talented chefs and restaurant, write about 4 chefs/restaurants you d most like to visit and why?

9 Writing Tips Take some time (a day or more) to think about these points and how to explain them in your essay. When you sit down to write, first jot down the most important ideas and details you want to include in your essay. Write them on a separate sheet of scratch paper, so you can refer to them while you write. When you ve finished your essay, it should follow this format: Introduction of yourself and your main ideas Discussion of your main ideas and details Conclusion that ties it all together. Be sure to let an adult read your essay before you turn it in. You will want to do more than one draft. And also, don t forget to spell check!
