Chapel Hill Cultural District Kehinde Adeoti, Aneika Dickens, Molly Martin, Avani Uppalapati
The Team Avani has had a long standing commitment to arts that started through her passion for dance and music. Kehinde volunteered with many different types of arts and entertainment projects. He has previous experience with marketing and market research positions that has helped develop intensive planning and preparation skills. Molly interned for the North Carolina Museum of Art and worked as the Event Coordinator for the Student Friends of the Ackland Aneika has been vintage costar archivist for the Center for Dramatic Arts and worked with the graduate costume department at UNC.
Project Goals The team will assist the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission in creating a plan for a downtown cultural arts district that will spur economic growth by researching best practices from other towns with arts initiatives and gathering information on available University and Town assets. Deliverables: o Best practice report from established arts initiatives in comparable towns across the country. o o Arts asset map that the Town of Chapel Hill can use in further developing a successful and well-incorporated cultural arts district. Provide recommendations for cultural arts development in Chapel Hill based on the best practices report and asset map.
Agenda Best practices from other towns o Bloomington, IN o UNSCENE!, Shreveport, LA o Salisbury, NC o ArtWeek, Boston, MA Chapel Hill Assets University Community Recommendations

Methodology 45 Campus Locations: Venue Locations, Facility Type, Amenities, Latitude/Longitude, Contact Information 50 Student Organizations: Creative Sector, Contact Information, and Arts Mission Assets Spreadsheet: so5w2yudxk4yjl5e7ps/edit#gid=0
UNC Student Arts Organizations
Available Campus Venues for Arts
Assets Map Visualization Example of potential Conceptual Map for Arts District Mapping
Recommendations University Square could be modeled after Salisbury Centerpiece design with central green area for use by both University organizations and the community. Need for a dance space on Franklin Street, and this could serve that purpose as well. Implement recurring arts festivals and events, similar to UNSCENE! in Shreveport, LA to improve local arts culture and to attract steady tourism to the town. Delineate portions of Downtown for particular uses, similar to the way BEAD has defined Character Areas. Market parking more creatively and effectively to support visitors.
Franklin Street: Potential Character Districts
Recommendations Creating a joint marketing and mapping strategy would be useful in generating contact between the two areas and identifying their shared potential. Utilize map for potential grant purposes as well as for keeping track of assets moving forward. Student coordinator position to enhance partnership between Town and University in developing arts programming that considers both areas assets Build and maintain connections between Town and University
Contact Information If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us! Kehinde Adeoti Aneika Dickens Molly Martin Avani Uppalapati Thank you for your time!
