1 Cuyahoga Community College Dean of Creative Arts Search Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Creative Arts. Ohio s first and largest community college, Tri-C is well supported in the regional. Each year more than 55,000 credit and non-credit students take courses at our four traditional campuses, two Corporate College locations, 50+ off-campus sites and via television and the Internet. Offering more than 1,000 credit courses in more than 140 career and technical programs and liberal arts curricula, Tri-C is a highly respected academic institution and has earned distinction as one of the Board Member Colleges for the League for Innovation in the Community College. In addition, Tri-C has established transfer partnerships with public and private institutions across the country, including the Berklee College of Music. Cuyahoga Community College offers an Associate of Applied Business degree in Visual Communication and Design, with concentrations in graphic design; advertising design; media arts; interactive media; illustration; recording arts; digital video; and photography. Other degrees available include an Associate of Arts degree in theatre performance and technical theatre, and an Associate of Arts degree in journalism/mass communications. Certificate programs are offered in animation, graphic design, and digital video editing. The College also offers programs for arts, dance and music students. In addition to positioning the College as one of the nation s premier multi-media collaborative learning environments, the Tommy LiPuma Creative Arts Center also houses the College s Center for Excellence in Music. Tri-C will leverage the strength of its partnerships with creative arts organizations and institutions, its innovative multi-disciplinary programs, the technical resources available at the new Center, and the international reputation of Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland, one of the nation s premier educational jazz festivals, to enhance its Center for Excellence in Music that will reflect the multi-cultural diversity of our nation. The LiPuma Center recruits industry experts

2 and faculty who are well-known practicing professionals and provide short-term residencies with leading artists in a wide array of American music fields. The Center will build on the College s existing highly respected performing arts programs; students will receive a core education in music fundamentals that will broaden their musical scope, while enabling them to focus on their music genre of interest. THE FACILITY: Located on the downtown Cleveland Metropolitan Campus, the new Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts is a highly visible, one-of-kind facility that provides a unique learning environment for students pursuing studies in a wide spectrum of creative arts disciplines. A partnership project between Tri-C and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the $30 million LiPuma Center for Creative Arts features 75,000 square feet of space that brings together in one building many of the College s media arts, recording arts, performing arts, music arts, animation laboratories, and other creative arts programs. To view: THE OPPORTUNITY: The Dean of Creative Arts will lead the successful implementation of strategic initiatives within the Creative Arts Division. The Dean will be responsible for the leadership and management for the creative arts programs across the college (Performing Arts, Media Arts, JazzFest, ArtsPrep, and Cultural Arts.) He/She will lead the strategic plan for the Contemporary Music Program, establishing it as a "Center of Excellence." The new Dean will interact closely with leaders of the local arts and business communities to develop the necessary relationships to ensure that the College cultivates value in its niche community and promotes the visibility of the College's programs, fosters creativity, partners with the Foundation Office to expand external support and manages the Division's human, fiscal, and physical resources. Overseeing the development, coordination, implementation and

3 enhancement of the college based creative arts programming including strategic growth and retention of students will be paramount in this position. He/ She will direct the Creative Arts Division to assure programs are relevant and current as well as develop, review and evaluate academic plans, curriculum, and programs. The new Dean will have the responsibility to recruit, select, supervise and evaluate faculty and division/departmental staff. He/She will ensure the communication of plans, activities and expectations of faculty and staff at various levels within the campuses and within the division. Most importantly the candidate will work in collaboration with the college-wide academic leadership team and other academic area team members to develop cross curricular programs on behalf of students that meet evolving industry needs and reflect cutting edge industry standards through an interdisciplinary emphasis within the Division of Creative Arts. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Fine Arts, Performing Arts or related field Five years of progressively responsible experience as a department chairperson or manager of personnel and resources in an area related to creative arts within a college or industry setting Demonstrated experience in budget management, program development, continuous quality improvement, community outreach and resource development Demonstrated successful experience in academic administration including financial and personnel management Ability to develop, organize, and coordinate a wide variety of instructional programs to achieve College and Division goals Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, and faculty throughout the college and external partners Must be able to think across curricular units and work with students to design interdisciplinary/individualized degree programs Demonstrated commitment to student success and to enhancing teaching and learning Ability to lead faculty teams in projects and the development of new programs and projects

4 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree Knowledge of curriculum development and outcomes assessment Demonstrated success in developing external funding from private and public sources Evidence of grant-writing and/or fund-raising skills Familiarity with the mission and focus of a community college Teaching experience at a community college Experience working in the community and with community outreach Demonstrated experience in program review and design Experience working collaboratively with diverse technology applications including SCT Banner LIVING IN CLEVELAND: In the past 10 years Cleveland has become a virtual hotbed for arts and cultural events while remaining one of the least expensive cities in which to live.
