1 MEDIA ORGANISATIONS TO CONTACT REGARDING POSSIBLE PLACEMENTS Undergraduates and graduates who are trying to locate contacts and network with media organisations in the region should use The Source, an on-line list of film, digital media companies, businesses, locations, facilities and key people based in the East Midlands. In order to keep in touch with regional news and developments it is also possible to receive a quarterly newsletter by registering on the EM Media website. Tel: info@em-media.org.uk Website: BRITFILMS LTD Britfilms is an organisation run by a group of individuals with varying experience of media and production who are passionate about film and programme making. Together they have created an internet site based in Nottingham which is dedicated to showing the work of small independent filmmakers. It is free to register and submit work to be aired on the channel with monthly prizes for the best entries. Britfilms works closely with local events such Bang a short film festival which runs 3 times a year and based at the Broadway Cinema, Nottingham. According to Phil Nodding, one of the directors of Britfilms, these opportunities are crucial in developing individuals experience of film making and encouraging more people into production. It also brings together like minded individuals, creating an amazing networking opportunity which often leads to the development of fresh ideas and new business ventures. Website: britfilmstv@yahoo.com INTERMEDIA FILM AND VIDEO LTD Intermedia is a major production house in the East Midlands and seeks, as part of its portfolio to support new production talent in the region. As well as co-ordinating in-house projects and providing the facilities for local talent to thrive it organises an extensive menu of training courses delivered by industry professionals. The short courses include directing drama, scriptwriting and regular production workshops and seminars. Some of the sessions are aimed
2 at beginners, covering digital editing, logging and capturing footage, putting sequences together, adding titles and music as well as basic transitions. 8 week courses cost between 90 and 120. One to one editing courses can also be arranged. Facilities at Intermedia include a broadcast quality multi-camera studio, video production kits and a range of editing suites which are available for commercial and subsidised hire. Vacancies for runners, sound recordists, camera operators, art directors etc to get involved with production projects crop up from time to time and are advertised on the Intermedia website. The short courses, workshops and film festivals provide excellent opportunities for networking. Tel: info@intermedianotts.co.uk Website: CHANNEL Channel is a production company based in Leicester and their clients include Nike Golf, De Vere Hotels, Virgin Trains, BskyB, Exxon Mobil and over 50 local authorities.
