3 And now get this What about those Cell Phones and the mobile Internet? There are over 4 BILLION mobile phones now world wide and 130 million web enabled phones in the US alone. This number is increasing rapidly and will definitely add to the number of Local Searches. So now that we have that established you maybe wondering What is Local Search? Well in 2008 the smart guys over at Google added a new feature into their search engines. They figured out a way to help people when they are looking for local companies. When a local search is detected, Google will display a map with 1, 3 or 7 listings within the area typically above all the other results. This is what is referred to as local search. The local search typically will include the business name, phone #, website address and reviews. The fact that Google displays this above the natural results is what makes being tops in the Google Local search such a huge deal. Especially since 76% of search engine traffic is accounted for by Google. This local search is replacing the Yellow Pages and with the growing popularity of mobile Internet capable phones, this is going to play an even bigger role. Almost all searches performed on mobile devices are local searches and Google displays these exact same local results. Okay hopefully now you realize how important this is to you and your business. In this report I m assuming you have already claimed your listing on Google Local Business Center. If you haven t, read this report and then head over to

4 So..now I m going to give you 17 tips to get top rankings for your Google Local. You can implement some of them but obviously the more you perform the better your chances are of ranking better. Tip #1: Include Longtail Keywords In Your Listings When you are entering your directory descriptions, details and titles make sure you are you need to consider what your customer would be typing into Google when looking for your product. Most common folk don t use the technical jargon that you use in your everyday practice. Include the keywords that your customers are going to be searching for. Also add your services, products, and any locations that you may serve. Including these keywords will increase your chances of showing up for searches your customers are actually typing in and by including them you should be ranked higher. Tip #2: Use Your Marketing Skills In Your Listing Don t forget, just because you are filling out a directory form Don t be boring! People are going to be reading this. Make it so people will want to take action by talking directly to your market. Fill up your whole listing including adding pictures, videos, awards, etc By adding the maximum number of pictures and videos will help with your rankings. (Contact me if you need any videos done for your business) Like mentioned above, have a call to action just like every other piece of marketing you put out. Include a coupon, mention a special, etc be creative. Tip #3: Use The Additional Details In Your Listing Near the end of your Google listing, many people ignore the section for additional details. This is a big mistake. Make sure to take advantage of the additional details section by including any other details about your business and include your longtail keywords again in this section to boost your rankings. Use specifics to improve your chances for showing up higher and more often. Also remember to provide the benefits to your customer in your listing and not just features.

5 Tip #4: Get More Reviews Of Your Business Getting customers to write positive reviews for your business should be integrated into your everyday business process. Not only do reviews on Google affect your rankings, but also reviews on Bing, Yahoo, CitySearch and many other local sites will boost your Google local search rankings. Yes its good for your rankings, but also people are more likely to believe what other people have to say about you than what you say about yourself. People trust these reviews and the more that you have the better in Google s eyes as well as potential customers. Tip #5: On Your Website Localize Your Title Tags The title tag is the text that shows up at the very top when your website loads up and also the text that one clicks on to go to your site from Google. So to show Google and your customers that you are local, include your business type or service and geographical modifier that you want your page to appear for. For example for one of my pages says, Sugar Land SEO Barry Real Marketing. If you can fit it in, I ve seen people include their phone number in the title tag to make it more visible to potential customers. The title tag is the code on your website that is in the header. It looks like this <title>your Info Here</title> Get your webmaster to get this fixed or contact me and I ll let you know how we can get it changed for you. Tip #6: Got Multiple Offices? Create Multiple Location Pages On Your Site I have seen many people try to get around this many different ways and they all work to varying degrees. For your own website, create separate pages for each physical address that your business has. Having multiple addresses on one page will just confuse Google and may cause them to ignore your information all together.

6 So create pages like and so on. You get the idea. The one thing you need to make sure of is that you do not include the same content on each page. Only include information that is pertinent to that location. Google will penalize your site if you have duplicate content on multiple pages. Now for your directory listings Google is currently experimenting in local search that allows companies that service multiple locations or has multiple locations to only have one profile but have the ability to select which areas they service. Tip #7: Get Links On Local Sites to Yours Google loves links to pages. A major part of how they rank sites is by how many links you have back to your site, the quality and relevance of those links and what is the text of those links(anchor text). Each backlink is like a vote for your site and as you can see each vote is not created equally. In the local search, say if you were a plumber in Atlanta, a link from an Atlanta plumber is going to have a higher relevance than a link from a Canadian pharmacy. So to get started contact any local businesses that you know and ask if they can post a backlink to your site from theirs. When networking, see who else you can get backlinks from that are from your local area. There are so many places you can find local links, get creative. Tip #8: : Research Your Competitors This is an obvious tip but often over looked. Go to Google and type in your business service or category and then your city name. For example if you are a plumber in Houston, type plumbers Houston. Now when the top companies pop up, click on the # of reviews link. Study what your top competition is doing. What categories are they in? What keywords do they use? What details do they have filled out? Take this information, improve it and use it for your profile. Do this for all keywords you think your customers are searching for. i.e. Houston plumbers plumber Houston, TX plumbing Houston

7 plumbers Houston etc you get the idea Also, take note of the website of the companies who are ranking #1. Next go to and in the search box type link: website.com. This will give you all the places they are getting links from. Go to those sites and try to get links from those places as well. Tip #9: Is Your Whois Information Right? When you register your website, you enter information that is maintained by the Internet Gods. The address that you entered for your website needs to match your physical address so your rankings will appear higher in Google local searches. To verify that they match, go to and type in your website. There will be three addresses associated with your website but you really need to focus on the registrant contact information. At minimum the zip code should match your physical address. Tip #10 10: Keep Your Address Consistent Anytime you use your address on the Internet, make it consistent everywhere. This includes directories, your website and anywhere else that it may appear. This is vitally important because if Google sees variations in your address, it will see them as different companies. Thus Google will try to spread the love between all of them. So if a directory has a misspelling or inaccuracy on their site, contact them to get it fixed immediately. Tip #11 11: Use Hcard Generator For Your Address What is Hcard? It basically just a format to display your contact information in way that Google and other search engine robots love. With this format, the robots will be able to easily decipher your company name, address and other details. To a person looking at your website, they won t notice a difference, only if they look at the coding. A quick way to get this done is go to: Then add this code to your website or get your webmaster to do it for you.

8 Tip #12 12: Get Listed In The Top Directories This is straight forward but a lil time consuming. Go to the top directories and get your business listed in them. Doing this will get you more link juice and as explained earlier, Google loves. Go to these sites and get listed. Yahooooooo! Best of the Web Local Local.com Yelp.com These are a good start but the more the better. There are local directories, online yellow pages directories, 411 sites, GPS/map sites, and more. Tip #13 13: Get Listed In Human Maintained Directories There are a couple directories out there that are constantly monitored and updated by humans and will not appear unless approved by these people. One of the biggest, most important and respected by Google of these directories is DMOZ. Although it is slowly updated, a link from them to your website is quite powerful since Google knows that these are all verified by a person. Go to and get signed up. Tip #14 14: Get Listed In Local Directories & Related Industry Sites This will take a little research on your part but shouldn t take too long. Get listed in your local niche directories. To find them just go to Google and type your city business type directory. ie Austin plumbers directory, or Texas plumber directory, etc Also check out your local association directories, Chamber of Commerce, etc If you are in Business-to-Business, consider getting listed in directories for the niche that you do work for. For example if you provide tax preparation for lawyers, look for local lawyer directories that will allow you to add your information and links into them.

9 Tip #15 15: Save Time & Get Help From The Pros Okay this may sound cheesy but its true. We all only have 24 hours in a day and most people like to spend some of that time away from working and spend it with the family. That is always why I invest in services and buy back my time.
