1 Marketing Now let s get started on probably the most important part probably it is the most important part of this system and that s building your list. The money is in the list, the money has always been in the list. I started in internet marketing 10 years ago, and I ve made so much more money with marketing than anything else. In many ways, the different things that I did make money with, in one way or another, were a result of e- mail marketing, pretty much all of them. marketing, so, so, so powerful. Even after all of the big changes with SEO, the rise of social media with Facebook and Twitter, the rise in the usage of smartphones and tablets, it still remains the same. The money s in the list. marketing is powerful, that s all there is to it, there s no getting around it. If you re an internet marketer, you need to be doing marketing. It is very, very powerful. You can work and work and work going uphill just to get more and more traffic to your site, and then you can work and work and try to hopefully get the same amount the next day or maybe more. Or you can work to convert the few visitors that you do get into subscribers. Then those subscribers will result in multiple times more visitors as long as they re quality leads - and I ll show you how to do that over time than if they would have been one-time visitors. I will take one, quality, laser-targeted lead subscriber over fifty or sixty one-time visitors any day of the week. Absolutely. Because it s more valuable, that s all there is to it. People buy via . marketing works. Very important that we get this done. We re going to do this a couple of different ways via squeeze page, which I m going to explain how to do that. We re going to go over that with some important factors to the copy on the squeeze page, among other things. Then we re also going to do it via pop up. The first thing to consider is the niche. Obviously, some niches are going to be better than others with marketing, but in almost every niche out there marketing can be used in one way or another to be profitable. Getting leads on an list is never a bad thing. In some niches it s more powerful than others, but it s never a bad thing. I highly recommend it no matter what niche you re in. Just consider the niche. For example, I have a Germany tourism website and I ve never really gotten e- mail marketing going on it. I should, it would be profitable, but in that 1

2 particular niche, for the most part, the traffic is from people who are planning a vacation to Germany looking for tourism tips. So if I get them on a list, it s a very small window before they actually go on their trip. Once they re back from the trip, those Germany tourism tips probably wouldn t be as valuable. But they might plan on coming back again in the future, so it s not a bad idea to get them on a list. That s one example where it might not be as profitable as it might be with another niche. But with most niches it is very profitable and again, even with that Germany tourism website I really should get marketing going on it because it s just never a bad idea to get people on an list who showed interest in a particular niche. The offer is very, very important. The offer needs to be laser targeted. Believe me, I ve experienced this first hand many times. If the offer is not good, it s not going to convert and you re going to be wasting your time. You re not going to get people to opt in. If the offer is laser targeted to what those people are looking for, then you re going to get a high opt in rate. So people coming to the website you re looking at here woodesigner.net they will hopefully be looking for woodworking plans and projects. That s the primary keyword I m targeting to the home page and then each of the internal pages will be to that effect. So these people are going to be either beginner or intermediate woodworkers, people who create things with wood and they ll be looking for ideas and stepby-step guides on how to build things with wood. So that s exactly what I m offering here with my pop up Five Cool Woodworking Projects Anyone Can Do. So that s laser targeted. That should have a very high conversion rate. We ll find out and we ll test later on and see what works and maybe tweak it here and there, but that should be a very high-converting offer. So that s the first thing you want to consider is the offer needs to be very, very targeted. That should be the first thing you consider, Ok, what am I going to offer, and What s going to convert? What type of product is it going to be? Is it going to be a PDF, an ebook, a little report, maybe a script if you re an internet marketer, into technology or something. It can be anything that you re giving away, it just needs to be valuable. It needs to be something that the visitors see value in. Then once you figure out what type of product it s going to be, you need to figure out the angle or the other way around. One or the other, they go together. The angle needs to be laser targeted, very, very, very, very important. 2

3 Let s go ahead and get into this. What you re looking at here, this popup I created this with a product called Pop up Domination. But you can create popups directly within your marketing service. You will need a service, the top two that internet marketers prefer are Get Response and AWeber. I use Get Response. We also use AWeber. We have accounts at both and they re both equally as good. I don t see any negatives with either one of them to be honest. They re both pretty much equal in my eyes. You can create pop ups with both of those as well. I like Pop Up Domination because they have a lot of different, really neat templates that look really high quality, they look really legit. You can add e-covers, etc., to them. So that s what I m going to use here just to show you, but again you don t have to buy this it s totally optional. You can create a pop up with Get Response or AWeber, as well. I m not going to go through setting up Pop Up Domination. Once you have it, it s pretty self-explanatory. They guide you through it. But you create a campaign. You have to connect your marketing service with it Get Response or AWeber whatever you have you create a pop up campaign. And as you can see right here I m going to go ahead open this up. Then you activate it and activate Pop Up Domination. So there are a few important things though. If you use Pop Up Domination it comes with default templates, but then you can order more templates, actually they re called themes, Theme installer. You can buy them right here, so it shows what they offer here. They have some really neat looking themes where you can add your e-cover and they just look really neat. That s the primary reason why I use Pop Up Domination. I don t have one of the neat looking ones installed yet. I will eventually, but that s why I use that. Otherwise you can just use Get Response or AWeber whichever one you use, they have pop ups as well. Once you have it set up here, and you can do A/B testing, etc. You can check your analytics and all that good stuff. Let s go back into the campaigns. I want to show you what s important when setting up pop ups. You see what it s going to look like there and thenthe content. Okay, this title is very, very important. This should be short and to the point. You don t want to put some general, broad statement in here. I m telling you it will not convert. You want something very specific and to the point. 3

4 What are they getting? That s it. Something specific and to the point. Five Cool Woodworking Projects Anyone Can Do. That s very laser-targeted and they know exactly what they re going to get if they opt in. So that s very, very, very important. They need to know after they read that exactly what they re going to get. There shouldn t be any doubt. If there s any doubt they re not going to do it. So that s really, really important. The form header, this needs to be a direct call to action. You need to tell them what to do. And I really need to put in that. Enter your name and to download. So that is a direct call-to-action telling them what to do. People do need to be told what to do when it comes to sales and opt ins. There needs to be a call-toaction. There have been many, many tests. I ve learned first-hand if you don t give a direct call-to-action conversions are lower. If you do give a direct call-toaction conversion are higher. It s very important to put a direct call-to-action there Enter your name and to download now. Your privacy is important to us, you can put your information will not be shared or something like that. Just some kind of note there then your default name, and the Submit button and then just something like Free instant download. I m going to save that since I made a change there. The most important part there is the title, you want to make sure it is very specific and they know exactly what they re going to get and then aside from that a direct call-to-action. In the content, put in a few good tips, nothing real specific there. The bullet points The display settings, I look to put up a few seconds later. Now I adjust this depending on the niche. It really depends on the niche. Some niches, the demographics of the user, the people in the niche, are more accustomed to seeing pop ups, so you might want to adjust there. In other niches they re not. In some niches the average visitor is going to be annoyed by pop ups, etc. But I typically set this at 2, this is the amount of time before it displays. Actually this is the number of days. I usually have that low. Once I start to get a lot more visitors to this site, I ll increase that because if I have a lot of returning visitors coming back every day, then I don t want to annoy them every time they come. I might raise that up to seven. Right now, this site isn t getting hardly any traffic, really none yet, because I just created it. We haven t started any advertising or anything, so I m going to set that at 2 for now, and then once we start to get some traffic and it shows some signs of stickiness, you know people coming back, then I ll increase that. 4

5 Page load this is where you set how long before the pop up displays. I have that set to 3 seconds, and I think that s pretty good. You don t want it to pop up immediately as soon as the page loads; that s just annoying and people don t like that, but you don t want to wait too long either, so 3 seconds is about right. That s what I set mine at. This stuff I think is trivial. I haven t really done any testing. Maybe it s not trivial, but it seems to me like it is. I have it slide in from the left. Well this isn t trivial, I do allow to pop up on mobile devices, but make sure you test that to make sure it works. Depending on the theme you re using, etc., it may not look right. Just make sure it all looks good if you do that. I did test this one and it looked great, it popped up right in the center of my iphone. Everything worked just fine, so I m going to leave that and allow it to pop up on mobile devices. Just make sure you do test it on your particular site to make sure it does display right otherwise it could totally mess up the experience and just cause people to leave. And these days a lot of people, depending on the niche, but in most niches a lot of people visit websites on their mobile phones, so it s very important to check that. The rest here pretty much default I do allow people to close the exit pop up. I think it s a bad idea not to allow people to exit the popup. Users should be able to exit the pop up definitely, and allow users to close pop up by clicking the exit by clicking the backdrop. I show it everywhere. You can change it based off referral. I just show it everywhere and then save changes. Those are the most important settings. I just wanted to show you those settings within Pop Up Domination. And again, you don t have to use that. You can use AWeber, Get Response or whatever your autoresponder is I just like their templates. Those are the important steps there. Next, I m going to get into the squeeze page. What we re doing is driving traffic to our website, and the different means we re going to do it. We re going to get into that in the next video, how we re going to drive traffic to it. But getting that traffic to it, unless you have a high spend for advertising, in most cases it s going to be a trickle of traffic, especially in the beginning. It s not going to be a high number of people, so you want to get them on to an list so that exposure will grow over time. As long as you re getting just a couple of people on your list every day. Just a couple of people is a lot of a people when you re getting them on your list because over time, after two days that s four people, after three days that s six people, and that multiplies over time. 5

6 Every time the higher that number goes, that s the number of people that you ve got to send an out every time you have a new blog post. That s very, very important. It s important to get people on to your list and a squeeze page is another really good way of doing that because it kind of increases the legitimacy of the product. Because it has its own website, it has its own copy, it s all focused on that download, so it kind of adds legitimacy to whatever it is that you re offering. I really like squeeze pages and to promote them you can promote them the same way you do the other stuff. You can do some testing. You can test out some Facebook ads, you can promote it to your Facebook page, you can do some link building. You can do all the stuff we re going to get into in the marketing video, but create a squeeze page. They re really good, they convert very well in many cases, and I m going to show you how to create one that will do well and convert well. What you re looking at here, I went ahead and registered a domain specifically for this, easywoodproject.com, and I installed a really basic squeeze page that we use for a lot of stuff. We ve done a lot of testing and in a lot of cases, going out and having a professional squeeze page designed, a really nice, professional with graphics everywhere; those usually don t convert anymore and in some cases they convert even less than just a basic simple squeeze page like this. So a basic squeeze page like this works just fine and I m providing this template that I m using here,. It s free. It s a download under the video so you can download that and use this same one. A few important aspects of the squeeze page: Number 1, the heading. Again, just like with the popup, it needs to be very specific, direct and powerful. However the people are getting here, this needs to be exactly what they re looking for, something very, very appealing and valuable in their eyes. Not valuable in your eyes, valuable in their eyes. It needs to be very valuable in their eyes, and they need to know exactly what they re getting. You do not want them to be wondering what this is after they read the heading. After they read this, they should know exactly what they re getting. Then all of this should just be optional, if they want to read it or not. That s how a squeeze page should work. The content, this should all be optional. They shouldn t have to read this to figure out what it is. If they have to read all of this to figure out what they re getting for free, they re not going to read it and you re not going to get their name and , so remember that. This needs to tell them exactly what they re getting. 6

7 What they re getting is Five Cool Woodworking Projects that Anyone Can Do. Pretty simple. I don t think there s any question whatsoever what they re getting. They re going to put their name and in here and they re going to get five woodworking projects that anyone can do, that are really easy to do. Once you have that and some other detail of it here. So this just kind of adds on to it, without expensive machinery or expert knowledge. So I figure what is something else they might wondering? Am I going to need expensive machinery? Can anyone do it as long as they have machinery or expert knowledge or what? So I just added that to add on to that heading. Then in the copy, it s really good for any copy whether it s a squeeze page or sales page, to lead people to the next paragraph. Did you know, you may be, etc., etc., This isn t expert copy here, this is just kind of a lead in to the pointers here, but it s always good to lead people into the next one. Then add some points. A lot of times when I m doing something like this, it s a free report or an ebook so I ll just go through the chapters and just add in. This one is pretty obvious, there s five woodworking projects, so just list the five woodworking projects, and that s what I did here. Then a call-to-action. Just enter your name and and we ll send you the project plans instantly. Instantly is a good word on the squeeze pages. They know they get it instantly, they don t have to wait for it to be shipped or anything like that. Then over here, you want to have a direct call-to-action again. Remember that popup. Many of the same characteristics of the popup is here. It s just a quick and easy thing. You want to quickly make sure you have a powerful subject so they know exactly what they re going to get, and then you need to have a very direct call-to-action. So this is their call-to-action, Just enter your name and , that s it. Enter your name and and you ll receive Five Cool Woodworking Projects that Anyone Can Do. So the number one most important thing, do not forget this. I cannot overemphasize this. I might have said this 10 times, and I could say it 10 more; this is very important. Make sure this powerful and to the point, and make sure you have a direct call-to-action. Those are the two most important parts of a squeeze page. And make sure you don t overdo it. If you have just text after text after text, and you re just getting into all these details, etc., people for the most part do not want that with a free product. 7

8 This is free, the perceived value instantly just because it s free is lower, in general. They don t have to make a big monetary commitment. Whenever you re asking for a big asking price, when you re charging them, then detail is good and you want to get into what they re getting, etc. But this is a squeeze page for a free product, we just want their name and e- mail. Their attention span is low when it comes to these for the most part, so don t go writing a big, long sales page. This is just a quick, short squeeze page. If anything, I would possibly even take some text out of this that I ve done here. It should be short, to the point, and simple. Don t overdo it. Then it s really good to have some kind of an image of what they re getting. Whether it s an ebook cover like this, or it really depends on what you re providing, but a graphical e-cover is really good, depending on whatever it is. Just show something. It doesn t even have to be something that represents the product, it can just be something that represents the niche. Maybe you re just getting them on an list where they re not receiving a product, where they re receiving tips or something like that. Maybe it s weight loss tips or maybe it s how to lose weight naturally or how to get rid of cancer naturally. Then you might just have a picture of a healthy person here. That s just one example, but you want to have some kind of graphical image here that just kind of adds to the content and is directly related. That really adds to the overall squeeze page. Once you have people who are starting to opt in to your list and again, even if it s just one or two people a day, that s really not bad getting started. It s going to snowball over time. But once you start getting people opting in to your list, the next thing you want to do is make sure that you re staying in touch with them. Make sure that you stay in touch with them, don t bug them. Don t send them two s a day. Don t bug them too much but stay in touch with them. them at least one a week. I m guilty of not doing that with some of my lists. I have different lists and different niches and multiple lists in some niches, and I m guilty of not doing that but that s more to the fact that I ve over-extended myself. It s a very, very bad idea to go several weeks or months at a time without e- mailing your list. The people on your list need to know that you re active in the niche, that you re passionate about the niche, that you re knowledgeable about the niche, that you care about them, and that you care about educating them. It s very, very important. If you don t do that, your list is going to go cold. I ve had lists go from thousands of dollars a month to hundreds or less just by letting them go cold. 8

9 Once you start building your list, even if it s a small number, them. Keep ing them, because if you re not doing that and you re just waiting for it to get huge, by the time it gets huge your whole list is already cold because you haven t been ing them. Once you start to get even just 10 or 20 people on your list, start ing them at least once a week. You can go up to a week or so, just don t go much further than a week, two weeks I would say max, without ing your list. You really need to let them know that you re interested in them and that niche. That you re passionate about the niche, you re knowledgeable about it and you want to stay in touch with them. They re going to constantly have your name or your brand whatever it is in their head because they re going to be receiving those s. Do that and don t let it go cold. But at the same time, don t bug them to death either. Stay in touch with them and see how some of the major brands do it. See how some of the big internet marketers well that might not be so great. Some of the internet marketers, how they deal with their internet marketing lists, I would not do in most niches. So don t necessarily look at that. Look at some of the people in your niche, that s probably the best way to do it. Some of the respected people or brands in that specific niche that you re getting into, see how they handle they re lists. I think you ll see all of the major ones, the really successful ones are pretty good about ing regularly and ing good offers, etc. So do that, and this is very, very important. Again, I cannot overstate how important it is to work on building your list from the beginning. It s very important because you can start getting just that small trickle of traffic opting in to your list and that will snowball over time. So even if you just have five or ten visitors a day, if you could just get one or two of those people to opt in, over time, it won t take very long at all to have 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 people on your list. Now you have those people and if you stay in touch with them and don t let it go cold, you can get a nice big spike of traffic every time you publish a new blog post, because now you re taking your new blog post and you re sending it out to them. That s what you want to do. Every time you post a new blog post, you want to take that, send it out to them Hey new blog post, here it is. Give a good subject in the directly, and that goes to the , too. That s something I want to get into quickly. When you do send out s, the importance of the heading on the squeeze page and the pop up that goes with the , too. You want to make sure the subject of the is to the point and powerful. 9

10 Let s say you re ing, An Easy Guide to a Do-It-Yourself Doghouse. You re subject might be something like New woodworking plan build a dog house easily, or something like that. I didn t put any thought at all into that, but something simple, to the point, and powerful so they know exactly what they re getting. So they click their , they click the link, and now they have it. Very quick and easy and to the point with no wondering. You don t want your visitors to wonder what they might be getting by opening the or what they might be getting by putting their name and in the popup or the squeeze page. You don t ever want them to wonder what they might be getting, they need to know right away as quickly as possible. That s it for marketing. Do it. Another good thing to do is add an inline. With Pop Up Domination you can do this too, or you can get some templates out there. It s not a bad idea to add in an opt in form, within your content, as well. I ll probably end up doing that with this site, but it s a really good idea. You can either add it at the bottom of the post or even at the top and that s just another way to get that opt in form in people s faces and get that offer or whatever you re offering them, in their faces every time they visit your site without it being too annoying with a pop up all the time, showing that every single visit, which you don t want to do. You can also still be showing them the opt in in a different form. So that s never a bad idea to add it within your content, too. That s it for marketing.
