1 INFORMATION FOR NEW COLLEGE ASSOCIATE STUDENTS - FACILITIES AND SUPPORT STUDENT CARDS & NUS EXTRA As an Associate Student, you will be given a New College student ID on enrolment. This will provide access to the college facilities and services. You can also use this card to take advantage of certain discounts and promotions in Swindon. On top of this, you can apply for an NUS Extra card. The card is available to students, studying full time or part time. Your course must have started, before you are eligible to purchase an NUS extra card. For more information on applying for the card and the discounts available visit: NEW COLLEGE NETWORK & IT SUPPORT We have over 1500 PCs across the College, all with up-to-date software, internet access, and personalised . IT Helpdesk Term time opening hours are as follows, unless notified otherwise. 2 OPEN LEARNING CENTRE Opening Times During term time the OLC is open between the following times. Mon 08:00 to 20:00 Tue-Wed 8:00 to 20:30 Thu 08:00 to 17:00 Fri 08:00 to 16:30 Opening times during the holidays will vary. Look out for announcements or speak to a member of staff. If you wish to use computers during the holiday period there are 10 located in the library. The library is usually open from 9am-1pm, but it is advisable to check before visiting by phoning Open Access Area in the OLC This area has computers for general full-time and part-time students, with: 45 PCs 1 Apple Mac 8 spaces for personal laptops Laptops can also be borrowed for use in the OLC. See staff for more details. The computers are connected to a booking system. Computers can be booked in advance and students are allocated a limited time. Extra time can be requested during quiet periods. A dedicated laptop area is available if you wish to use your own laptop, or borrow one from the OLC. During busy times pre-booking is advisable. You will be shown how to access to the New College network and booking system on enrolment. Assistive Technologies A number of assistive technologies can be made available in the OLC on request, including oversized keyboards, trackballs, screen-reading software and text-to-speech.

Please be advised that these opening hours are subject to change and Library PCs may not be available at all times. This could be either a one-to-one interview or a telephone or discussion. Guidance interviews for Higher Education students are available from the New College Careers & HE Co-ordinator or the National Careers Service Adviser. You can book an appointment at Student Services. and telephone careers advice is available for all `part-time course' students and 'potential' New College students.

5 Counselling This service is provided by qualified BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) registered counsellors and is completely confidential. As an Associate Student you will be able to access one free session, our Counsellors will then make the appropriate referrals. Chaplaincy The multi-faith chaplaincy team help with spiritual and faith issues, and can also offer a listening ear when you need someone to talk to. We can arrange time and space for prayer or quiet reflection and will give information about faith communities and festivals in the local area. There is a dedicated Sacred Space available for Students and Staff. It s a Multi Faith room available on a bookable basis (via Student Services) and also drop in for individual prayer, quiet reflection, silence, fellowship groups, dialogue, study and occasionally for formal worship.
