6 Slide 4: What is the ideal situation? And what are the obstacles/barriers in your opinion to move towards the ideal situation? From our learnings in Helix Nebula, an ideal environment includes: an open, federated environment, but with standardised interfaces clear procurement structures and process Containing: Large-scale, long-term storage environment(s) with full data curation, archiving, DP compliance, IP protection, etc. A platform where those with niche knowledge and capabilities can develop and deploy their solutions probably researchers and/or SMEs An environment to deliver the results and acknowledge use of intellectual property, financially or otherwise A framework which allows varying suppliers to deliver federated services with a common interface small and large, new and established, making use of what already exists and works Predictability for recovery of investments, for both large and small The Copernicus Value Chain Workshop April 2016 Brussels 6
