Meet the Founders Nick Fredin Co-Director Nick Fredin was a Senior Animator at Weta Digital and has worked on numerous films such as Avengers, The Hobbit films, Planet of the Apes, X-Men and many more. Having worked in the industry for 10 years, Nick saw a unique opportunity to teach the skills that he acquired through his experience by creating a school that he would be proud to have attended. Jeff Pepper Director Jeff Pepper was a former Lead Animator in Australia as well as Canada. He has worked on AAA Games as well as for Nickelodeon. While working in the industry, Jeff often worked extra hours & weekends to help artists under his supervision become efficient & produce higher quality of work. 9 LET S GET STARTED The Course process Sony Computer Entertainment Prerequisites Instead of having traditional style prerequisites CG Spectrum has a one week mandatory orientation class. The purpose of this class is to give students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the course software. Catapult Week A one week orientation class The non-accredited Catapult short course has been built to help propel you forward by giving you all the basic design and software skills you will need to feel confident in the Diploma course. It is our goal to make sure that all CG Spectrum students who enrol in the program succeed. If at any time during this one week class students feel like they are getting lost they will have the chance to address these concerns with their instructor before continuing on with the full program. This subject is mainly focused on creating 3D models, exploring 2D concept design and developing textures and materials. These are core skills in the CG Industry and are relevant to all other areas. Beyond this, students will form a strong understanding of animation in Autodesk Maya, from the ground up. This subject will allow students to build a base of solid skills as well as assets for their portfolio, and emerge with the requirements to continue into more advanced areas. Taking students growing modelling skills and texturing skills, we now expand into more exciting and complex areas like character rigging for use in the Unreal Game Engine, combined with utilizing motion capture and animation to create a fully functioning game character. See what it is like to work in a real game studio by compiling production schedules and managing projects. This is helpful for students who wish to move on to smaller game studios or create an indie game company as well as work for a AAA game studio. All classes and critiques are recorded for the student to review anytime. Instructors can cater the class to specific student needs/questions Student work is critiqued live within the student s file. 15 Program Instructors Universal Pictures Steve Budd Instructor of Animation Head of Online Training Steve Budd came from a background in traditional art, before a desire to bring more life to his work prompted him to make the move to study animation and computer graphics as a way of combining both skill sets. His early animation life began working on various children s televisions shows, and in advertising for a range of post production studios around Melbourne. Some recent work has been animating on such feature films as TED and Ghost Rider 2 and through his own design studio, on various game, advertising and film projects. Throughout his career he has taught at various animation and gaming schools, and found that nothing is more inspiring or keeps his skills stronger than teaching an art form that he loves. Warner Bros. Simon Warwick Instructor of Animation Simon Warwick is trained and practiced in animation but is always exploring technology, trying to learn how to create the next best thing. He s spent the past 7 years working at established video games studios, and was recently credited as the only technical cinematic animator for Batman: Arkham City at Rocksteady Studios. Simon hopes to pass along skills learned in the games industry to help students deal with problems with no correct answers. Having an open mind and staying just outside your comfort zone can keep you ahead of the competition and make you a valuable employee. 16 FEES $24,900 Fees can be paid direct to the School in instalments using PaySmart or eligible students can apply for VET FEE-HELP. CG Spectrum has a detailed refund policy, requirements and policies for students in regards to student fees and payment plans. Mentor work by Andy Poon COURSE & CODE Diploma of Screen and Media CUF50107 PRE-REQUISITES You are required to successfully complete The Catapult Course, an obligation free pathway into the Diploma Course. See more about it on page 9. Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are also available on request. DURATION OF COURSE The Full Time (FT) Diploma of Screen and Media takes 1 year to complete. Students are expected to study a minimum of 25 hours per week The Part Time (PT) Diploma of Screen and Media takes 2 years to complete. Students are expected to study 12.5 hours per week. This Diploma of Screen and Media is fully Government accredited and registered for VET FEE-HELP assistance. For further information regarding the student loan scheme please visit studyassist/helppayingmyfees/vetfee-help/pages/vet-fee-help VET FEE-HELP is available to assist eligible students studying higher level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to pay their tuition fees. VET FEE-HELP can be used to pay all or part of an eligible student s tuition fees, but cannot be used for additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. VET FEE-HELP is a student loan scheme for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). A VET provider is a registered training organisation that has been approved by the Australian Government to offer VET FeeHelp assistance to their students. REPAYING A VET FEE-HELP LOAN Your VET FEE-HELP debt is repaid through the tax system and is paid back to the Australian Government through the Australian Taxation Office once your annual income reaches a certain amount. In the repayment threshold is $54,126. The debt is tax free and is indexed each year to maintain it s real value. Voluntary repayments of $500 or more receive a 5% bonus. Somewhere where you can do your work without being interrupted and where you can be creative...your own studio space if you like. The ability to come up with the best ideas you can. We ll help you with this and we ll also help you develop your design skills... but you need both...ideas and design skills. ADDITIONAL COSTS AND EQUIPMENT A computer with the following minimum specifications: Microsoft Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 8 Professional operating system; Apple Mac OS X and x operating system 64-bit Intel or AMD multi-core processor Microsoft DirectX 11 compatible graphics card 4 GB of RAM minimum (8 GB recommended) 4 GB of free disk space for installation Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox web browser 3-button mouse Webcam Headset with microphone High-speed Internet Connection You ll also need to subscribe to Adobe s Creative Cloud. It will give you access to the industry standard software you ll need and it underpins pretty much everything you ll be doing on the computer. Again we are happy to refund you the price of this software for the duration of your studies after you have shown the required progress through the subjects. Due to the extended time of the Part Time program the school covers half of the monthly subscription fee for Part Time students.
