7 Roxtec field report Process Industries We saved both time and space Designers choice for best value Norwegian Statoil invests in the production of heavy crude oil from Canadian oil sands. In order to deal with safety issues and extreme labor costs, the global oil company chose Roxtec seals. Safe and efficient A billion dollar project in a costintensive remote area allows no risk-taking. It requires everything from pre-fabricated buildings to reliable fire rated and water-proof cable seals. Roxtec seals are, for example, used around multiple power cables going up through the floor into the motor control centers (MCC s), protecting equipment against humidity, dust, and explosions. Saving time and space With Roxtec, we got better sealing and most likely lower labor costs, says Kolja de Regt, Senior Electrical Engineer of KDR Consulting Ltd and owner s representative for the Statoil Leismer project. Instead of drilling individual holes in each MCC on site, we were able to seal all cables in a few openings. Saving time in the field is what counts. General foreman Tristan Gullickson of Integral Energy Services agrees: It would have taken a lot of time to drill all those holes and seal all the cables one by one with glands. Easy expansion Production will expand for at least 20 years. The built-in spare capacity of the Roxtec seals makes it easy to add cables and equipment whenever there is a need. The seals can be used around existing cables in energized MCC s and allow for pre-terminated cables.

8 Roxtec field report Marine We can use plastic pipes wherever we want Seals of the Seas Roxtec cable and pipe transits are used to ensure peace of mind onboard Oasis of the Seas, the world s largest cruise ship built at STX Europe in Turku, Finland. Certified safety The sealing system will protect the 360-meter vessel and 8,000 people onboard during pleasant tours in Caribbean waters by minimizing risks caused by water, fire or smoke. Our selection of Roxtec transits makes it possible for us to use plastic pipes wherever we want. We reduce the need for welding, balance overall weight and avoid corrosion issues, says Sebastian Brunila, Senior Superintendent of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Flexible solutions Thousands of round and rectangular Roxtec seals, for single and multiple cables and pipes of different sizes and materials, are used from below the waterline up to the royal cabin balcony. There are 5,000 km of cable and 250 km of pipe penetrating structures onboard. You even find Roxtec seals in the central palm tree park fountain lighting! Ready for upgrades In this competitive industry, it is smart to be able upgrade for new amazing attractions. Each Roxtec transit provides built-in spare capacity for additional cable routing. This means no need for spare parts and no extra cost for new seals. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has decided to have 10 percent of spare space for cables and pipes on the ship.

9 Roxtec field report Construction Roxtec is convenient to work with Solutions for growing cities The World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, presented technical innovations for sustainable urbanization. Roxtec seals were used in several projects aiming to improve living conditions. Building for the future One of them is the pioneering 800 kv Fengxian HVDC converter station of the State Grid Corporation of China. It will supply a considerable part of Shanghai with energy from remote hydropower plants. This world record project must be totally secured. Imagine the disaster in case of a stop in the power supply to the vibrant metropolitan area! Superior water barrier Shanghai is a low-lying city. When the rain falls, there is a risk of flooding in the cable trenches. In order to ensure stable electricity supply, the State Grid specified Roxtec cable seals. Designers and contractors recognize further benefits than water-tightness: Roxtec is convenient to work with and makes it possible for us to increase cable capacity whenever we need, says Chief Engineer Mr. Huang. It even looks beautiful! Preventing corrosion Another great project is the Linjiang Water Treatment Plant. For the first time, people in the expo area will be able to drink their water from the tap without boiling it first. This triumph for public health is a result of the new plant, the new piping-system and new technology. Roxtec waterproof seals were selected in order to prevent corrosion damages.
