June 4, Projects Usability Evaluation of the Smart Voting Joystick, ITIF Grant 2013 Conducted a usability evaluation of the Smart Voting Joystick, a user interface device designed to improve accesses to private, independent, and user friendly voting for individuals with motor and dexterity related disabilities. This study gathered feedback from users with representative disabilities, made recommendations for improving the Smart Voting Joystick, and contributed to research literature regarding how individuals

9 Curriculum Vitae, James E. Jackson [9] with motor and dexterity related disabilities use joysticks to vote and interact with information technology. Research Study on Dyslexia, Literacy, and Technology, Master s Thesis Designed and ran a twenty-four participant research study utilizing and building on methodologies from Usability Testing, which sought to better understand both the writing and reading practices of college students with dyslexia and the role that assistive technology plays within those practices. Accessible Mobile Voting User Interface Design, NIST Grants Developed user interface and interaction design standards and a complete wireframe for accessible mobile voting systems. Standards and wireframe were designed to accommodate individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including visual and dexterity impairments, and individuals with disabilities were consulted to refine the initial design. MSU Writing Center Staff Website Fall Fall 2013 Used BuddyPress and WordPress to create a staff-only version of the Writing Center website that allowed us to centralize the distribution of digital content including workshop materials, and information on Writing Center procedures and employment policies, as well as create a platform for communication between satellite coordinators and staff, staff discussion of writing center issues, and staff community building. CATA Social Media Strategy Class project, WRA 415 Digital Rhetoric Fall 2011 Worked in a small group using ethnographic research techniques to develop a social media strategy for the Capital Area Transportation Authority in Lansing, MI. Navigating the PhD Online Module Summer 2011 Worked with a group to develop online modules based on the Navigating the PhD workshop series offered by the Michigan State University Writing Center. Resume Workshop Class Project, AL 892 Writing Center Theory Spring 2011 Worked with Tardiff, M. to develop a workshop using cultural modeling and pedagogical content knowledge to teach visual rhetoric through engaging the familiar genre of the resume.
