Now that Mothers day is approaching, the Ahlia team would like to congratulate all mothers on this very special day, Mothers day 21 st of March As most of us know being a mother is the hardest job in the world. From carrying the baby in the stomach for nine months, through sleepless nights when the baby is new born, through starting them off in preschool having the difficult task of separation, through helping them with their school work, encouraging them to go to university and dealing with all the problems of adolescence through the teenage years. It never ends, even when children become adults, their mother still worries about them. They continue to worry about them even when they are married for a matter of fact. The pain and trauma a mother goes through on the birth of her child is incomprehensible, and also whenever their child is sick a mother will suffer with worry constantly until their child recovers. No one can imagine unless they are a mother themselves. So here s a message to all students; Thank your mother for all she has sacrificed for you, congratulate your mother, appreciate her, respect her, study hard at school and love her not only on mother s day but every single day. 2 Hello again! Parents Open Meeting An Open Meeting with parents was held on Wednesday 18 March with Professor Abdulla Al Hawaj, Chair of the School Board of Trustees (BoT). Also attending were Professor Mansoor Al Aali (BoT member), Dr Mohammed Habib (School Director General) and most members of the PTA. The meeting discussed the Ahlia School Development plan up to 2015/2015 and parents proposed many useful suggestions which will be included in the development process. The School would like to express its sincere thanks to all parents for their valuable ideas and we look forward to continuing useful collaborations with parents. Math project The School has started a new project called "I'm a Mathematician", aimed at developing students' high order thinking. This project invites students' to solve challenging learning tasks such as open-ended problems, investigations and inquiries. Students' ideas and different solutions will be checked and the correct ones will be displayed in the School and on the School website. Teachers needed... As mentioned in earlier Newsletters, the School is recruiting new teachers for 2015/16 - full-time and daily rate substitutes. Spring Break 2015 Ahlia School's Spring Break will be from Sunday 12 April 2015 to Thursday 23 April Classes will resume on Sunday 26 April

3 Ahlia School held its staff in-set day on Wednesday, March 18 th, 2015, that included a Life Skills workshop by Ms. Shahnaz Bahman and a Differentiation workshop by Dr. Mohammed Al Habib & Mr. Hussein Abdul Ameer. Staff were introduced to life skills that included learning styles, classroom - behavioral management, creating classroom rules, and maintaining teacher student relationships. They were also trained on how to do differentiate students by tasks, outcomes, and time allowed in the classroom to accommodate different preferences & support needs. 3

5 Pre School Class Activities for the Mother s Day Ms. Sabrina s class, KG1B made some wonderful Mothers Day arts and crafts. We made purse cards that expressed children's true creativity and tulips made out of their hand prints. The students were really excited to show their mothers. Hope you have a Happy Mothers Day. Ms. Olena s class, KG1C made a beautiful craft Teapots for the Mothers Day. It's just a simple way to express our great feelings towards our beloved Mothers! 5

6 KG2 Field Trip to Dolphin Park KG2A and KG2B students had a great opportunity to explore the wonderful world of the Marine Mammals through their field trip to the Dolphin Resort. They watched and participated in an amazing show with the adult sea lion and dolphin, and got a chance to play with the cute baby sea lion. Dolphins have acute eyesight both in and out of the water. They hear frequencies 10 times the upper limit of adult humans. Their sense of touch is well-developed, but they have no sense of smell. Because dolphins are mammals, they need to come to the surface of the water to breathe. Unlike land mammals that breathe and eat through their mouths, dolphins have separate holes for each task. Fascinating facts about dolphins: Dolphins eat through their mouths and breathe through their blowholes. This prevents the dolphin from sucking up water into the lungs when hunting, reducing the risk of drowning. Dolphins are very social, living in groups that hunt and even play together. Large pods of dolphins can have 1,000 members or more. Known for their playful behavior, dolphins are highly intelligent. They are as smart as apes, and the evolution of their larger brains is surprisingly similar to humans. KG2(A) students have decorated colorful postcards and wrote messages to their Mommies in anticipation of the Mother s Day Celebration. 6

He was a French poet, renowned mainly for his Fables. He wrote various poems, plays and opera librettos that confirms his moralist ambition. Close to Nicolas Fouquet, Jean de La Fontaine stays away from the royal court but frequents salons such as Madame de La Sablière and despite opposition, he was admitted to the French Academy in It ranks in the party of Veterans in the famous Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns. 7
