It is also Occupational Therapy Week 1 st 7 th November, so we would like to invite you to come and see all the new and exciting developments that are taking place within our services and to take a look how:- 'Occupational Therapy is making a Difference' We hope you can come and celebrate with us, just drop in at anytime for a piece cake! CORPORATE 1. Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS) The Department of Health and NHS Employers have recognised the challenges faced by the NHS with the announcement of a Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS). This has been developed to help meet some of the challenges of the future by asking staff to consider leaving the NHS, on a voluntary basis, to reduce the need for and scale of redundancies in future years. The scheme for Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust staff is offered following discussions with Staff Partnership Forum members, endorsement by South Central Strategic Health Authority and agreement by the PCT Board. Information about this scheme was published at the end of September. The scheme is for a limited period, running until the end of October Every member of staff is encouraged to consider this scheme. Full details of the scheme can be found on our website at Staff in Human Resources are available to support you in reaching a decision on whether you want to make an application under this scheme but of course the final decision must rest with the individual member of staff as to whether this is the right path for you. 2 The NHS trusts across Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight have been working together with the South Central Strategic Health Authority (SHA) to set out a vision for what unscheduled care services could look like in the future. During July, August and September we have been engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to review why things need to be improved for patients and proposals for how unscheduled care services could be delivered in the future. We received a total of 118 responses to our engagement from a wide range of stakeholders. All of this feedback has been collated and a feedback summary can be seen on our website at This information is now being incorporated into the strategy before a final version is sent to each primary care trust (PCT) in Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. The final strategy document will also be available on our website at this stage. As this proposal is about what services could look like in the future, not necessarily how it will be delivered in each area at this stage, the final strategy will be taken forward locally to develop a plan for implementation in the best way for local residents. This will involve each PCT working closely with local GPs and local stakeholders, including patients, social care colleagues, local hospitals etc. If you would be interested in getting involved in these local discussions please do let us know by ing yourviewscount@hampshire.nhs.uk including which area you are in (Portsmouth, Southampton, Isle of Wight or the rest of Hampshire) and we will ensure you remain informed of engagement opportunities in your area. Have you worked together with any Local Authority in Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth or Isle of Wight to influence and improve decisions about your community and its services? Then you are involved in Community Empowerment and we would like to hear from you! The South East Community Empowerment Awards offer the chance for you to win up to 5,000 to support your activities. The award scheme is being organised by the South East Regional Empowerment Partnership (SEREP) to encourage and reward the dedication and enthusiasm of local people, groups and organisations who have worked with their local councils to improve their community. Community Action Hampshire (CAH) is administering the awards scheme in Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. The courier collects from the post room 3 times per week. SERVICE 6. National Fraud Initiative Data Matching Exercise 2010 To follow up the message sent out in August 2010 payslips, the PCT will be taking part in the Audit Commission s National Fraud Initiative Data Matching Exercise in Please note therefore that key payroll data may be provided to bodies responsible for auditing and administering public funds for the purposes of preventing and detecting fraud. Checkmate Fire Solutions are now progressively working their way around the hospital, commencing in North 2, which should be complete by the end of the week. Thereafter they will be starting in North 1 on the 22nd October or sooner if the surveys go well. All personnel are badged, identifiable by their yellow jackets and will in advance of the surveys liaise with receptions/ward clerks or Sisters as appropriate prior to commencing in any areas. If at the time of a request to undertake a survey of the Fire Doors within your ward/department it is not convenient, then please let them know and they will organise an appropriate time/day to re-visit and complete the survey. Transfer Of Written Patient Information Important Reminder Any written patient information should only be transferred to others in securely sealed and appropriately addressed envelopes to avoid breach of confidentiality and possible loss of information Liz Warner, Associate Director, Elective services 9. Fire Alarm Installation L1 (Main Hospital) As part of the Estates Capital Works programme, Contractors are being interviewed this week for selection in taking forward the design, installation and supervision of the new Fire Alarm L1 to replace the existing conventional Fire Alarm. At the end of this week the Trust will appoint a PSCP'S (Principle Supply Chain Partner) to lead the initial design. Design and Procurement stages will be complete by the end of December with works due to commence in early Over the next two months, numerous Consultants/Contractors will be visiting various areas of the Phase 3 Building to under take surveys and verify supplied information. Again, all departments will be kept informed of any requirement for visits to those departments ahead of any personnel visiting. We have designed individual forms for certain incidents. This is because we have been asked by some external Governing Bodies (such as the National Patient Safety Agency) and also our own senior Managers/Directors, to gather more detailed information on these specific incidents. Also, as they are more frequently reported incidents, it will make it easier for staff to report them. The incident categories in question are:- Pressure Injuries Patient Falls Staffing levels When you wish to complete a form please go to the usual button "Accident/Incident or Adverse Event Forms" on right hand side of intranet site. You will then see 5 choices as follows:- GP Incident Report Form - to be used only by GP surgeries Pressure Injury Report Form Patient Slip/Trip/Fall Report Form Staffing Levels Report Form Accident/Incident or Adverse Event Form - to be used for all other incidents that don't fall into the above The new forms all work in the same way as the main form - and will be easier to complete. 5 EDUCATION AND TRAINING 11. Employment Law Briefings Sessions Once again we are pleased to be able to invite you to one of our Employment Law Briefings. We are holding two sessions on Monday 1st November 2010 from 1100 to 1300 and on Wednesday 3rd November 2010 from 0900 to 1100, both sessions will be held in the Occupational Health Studio. These sessions will provide, for Managers, a brief overview of recent changes in Employment Law and Trust HR Policies, as well as highlighting important developments and future changes. Space is limited, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so if you would like to attend one of these sessions please contact Human Resources on x6443 as soon as possible.
