4 What is a Compact? The compact statute creating MHEC makes MHEC an instrumentality of state government of each of its member states. This statutory language gives MHEC broad contracting authority to help carry out its mission. MHEC then enters into agreements for the benefit of its twelve member states, effectively letting institutions in one state pool their resources and expertise with different institutions in other states to gain advantages in the marketplace they otherwise would not be able to obtain. 4

43 University of Cincinnati Easy and Secure File Sharing Problem: Solution: Results: Needed a secure file sharing solution for faculty members that leveraged existing secure private cloud storage. Implemented Novell Filr in conjunction with Novell File Reporter and Novell Storage Manager to manage storage accessed by Filr. UC was able to optimize 15 TB of SAN storage while offering easy, Dropbox-like file sharing for its faculty. Their Advice: Novell products are reliable and work together. Anytime you can integrate different products easily, it really saves you time and frustration. 28
