2 1. INTRODUCTION During meetings and conferences many UT staff frequently use hard copy documents and annotations. Increasingly, these staff are switching over to using tablet devices. One of today's popular tablets is the ipad2 by Apple. To be able to make optimum use of the ipad, the following is required: 1. The ipad is properly equipped and configured, and 2. You set up the workflow of the documents. 2. BEFORE YOU GET STARTED This manual has been written for the ipad 2, but is also suitable for the ipad. When working through the manual, you will frequently have to perform operations. A specific style of writing is used for these instructions: references to text and buttons on screens are printed in italics, data that you have to enter yourself is printed in bold. 3. SETTING TO WORK To be able to set to work with the ipad, we recommend that you follow the step-by-step plan outlined below PURCHASE On account of the warranty, service and registration of the tablet, we recommend that you order the device using an OTA (instruction to purchase) form through the UT procurement department. Beforehand, you should decide whether you require an ipad with or without 3G option. (3G uses your GSM card, enabling you to use the internet even when there is no WIFI reception). If you decide to have the 3G option, you can then choose from an additional data subscription for only the ipad, or a DUO SIM card in combination with your mobile telephone APPLE ID Apple works with an Apple ID. You require this Apple Store account (ID) to, for example, download applications. NB. It is important that you decide which computer home or at work - you wish to link the ipad to in order to: a) create a back-up, b) update applications and the operating system ios, c) exchange files ITUNES itunes is a free program for the Mac and PC (Windows). You can use itunes to shuffle and playback digital music and videos on your computer. It keeps all of your media up-to-date. It is also a shop on your computer, ipod touch, iphone and ipad where you can get everything you need. Anywhere. Anytime. as Apple words it.

3 You can install (and update) itunes on your Windows UT workstation through ZENworks or on your home PC by downloading itunes from the Apple site: Here you can choose Windows or Mac. You can create an Apple Store account (Apple ID) by starting up itunes and then choosing the option account. Apple asks for a credit card or bank account number for age authentication and to be able to charge for Apps. If you do not wish to use a credit card, you can also purchase a gift voucher, see: So the payment can be made in three different ways: using a credit card, bank account or a voucher. In the App store, you can also download free Apps. 4. IPAD CONFIGURATION SETTING UP THE IPAD FOR WIRELESS HOME USE Follow the manual for your wireless router SETTING UP THE IPAD FOR WIRELESS (EDUROAM) The manual for setting up Eduroam is available from the ICTS website: SETTING UP A MAILBOX The manual for setting up your work mailbox this runs on Exchange - is available through the ICTS website: G OPTION If the ipad is equipped with a 3G option, you should use the following setting for access to the library: INSTALLATION OF APPLICATIONS (APPS) FROM THE ITUNES STORE: Applications can be downloaded from the itunes store. Search e.g. on GoodReader (Hint! Here, you have to select the ipad app and not the iphone app) and then select buy. If the credit card details are known, the amount will be deducted from the credit card. If you have a voucher, then the amount on the voucher has to be transferred first of all. A code is provided underneath the scratch-off coating on the rear of the voucher. The amount is transferred by entering this code. Install a number of default applications: GoodReader (file manager),

4 Pages (an alternative to Word, text editor), Keynote (an alternative to PowerPoint, for presentations). 5. CONNECTING BETWEEN THE DE IPAD AND THE NETWORK DISKS (WEBDRIVE). Use for the connection with the P:, M: and U: disks MANUAL FOR THE WEBDRIVE Webdrive allows you to easily gain access to your UT documents from your home work space and/or mobile device (ipad, iphone, laptop). You can gain access to your data with the web browser, but also with WebDav. This is all possible without using VPN WEBDRIVE ACCESS WITH BROWSER The Webdrive service can be reached through the internet browser using And log-in using: AD\<account> <password> WEBDRIVE TECHNOLOGY The WebDAV protocol is used to access the data on the file services through the web. There are various WebDAV clients for various types of devices, such as: ipad, iphone, Linux PC and Windows PC. Because the data is transported over the web, you are able to access your documents from almost anywhere. You no longer require a VPN connection for this; it is simple to do. The data is also transported securely because an HTTP connection is used. The data is sent over the phone line using https encryption. 6. WORKFLOW DOCUMENTS: To gain access to your documents using your ipad, it is important that the documents (meeting documents) are stored in a central share in PDF format. Use UT storage for this, on account of the security and confidentiality of the documents. If this share does not yet exist, you can easily have this created. Please send an to ICTS containing the name of your department and the name that you would like for the share.

5 6.1. GOODREADER CONFIGURATION The requested share can be added to GoodReader. Step 1: Add the WebDAV server. Open GoodReader on the ipad. Select Connect to Servers and click Add From the list select WebDAV Server. Step 2: Configuration For Readable Title enter a name for the folder, which will be visible on the ipad. For URL address enter the required location on your P disk. Spaces in directory names have to be replaced by %20. For example

6 For User enter your user name of your UT ICT account. For Password enter the corresponding password. For Domain enter your domain (usually AD). After this has been configured, the server that has been added can be used by selecting this:

8 6.2. READING DOCUMENTS: The GoodReader application provides a list of the storage locations and shows the file structure of these. The documents that are stored in a storage location in a shared folder can be read immediately using a PDF reader. GoodReader is particularly suited to synchronising documents with the UT storage. You do not need to be online for this EDITING DOCUMENTS:

9 During the meeting, annotations can be made on the PDF files. The strength of the ipad is precisely that during meetings, additions or annotations can be made to/on the PDF file. Do take into account that the annotated copy, i.e. the edited version created by GoodReader, is stored locally! Below are a number of pictures which will give you an idea of how you can edit files.
