8 Mobile Media Definition Mobile media is defined as those technologies used to develop, integrate, and support mobile websites and applications.

9 The Rise of Mobile Media By 2014, there will be as many as 142 million mobile media users --emarketer, 2010 Mobile-ready websites have seen two-year growth of over 2,000% --dotmobi, 2010 IT professionals expect mobile software application development will surpass application development on all other traditional computing platforms by IBM, 2010 Revenues from mobile application sales are expected to expand from $6.2bln in 2010 to $30bln in IBM, 2010

10 Research Objectives In 2011, COE conducted a workforce study on the mobile media workforce in California. The purpose of the study was to collect and analyze data on: Current number and size of mobile media firms Future job growth in six mobile media occupations Level of difficulty in hiring for each of the occupations Job openings advertised online, in mobile media Most important skills for each of the occupations Industry preferences for education and training Existing and planned community college programs in California Model curricula in mobile media

11 Study Methodology Identified 1,220 firms with mobile media operations Surveyed over 400 firms (30%) in 2011(online; phone; and internet panel) Analyzed job openings data for mobile media occupations from March August 2011 Surveyed community colleges about mobile media programs
