13 Columbus Day Ball This is the main social event of the year for the Maryland State Council. It is part of the tribute to our namesake Christopher Columbus. This year the Ball will be held on October 10 th. This can be a highlight event for your council. The Columbus Day Ball is truly a gala affair featuring dinner, dancing and celebrating in a somewhat formal atmosphere. 14 Columbus Day Ball Program Book The Program Ad Book plays a major role in keeping the cost of Ball tickets at a reasonable level and in generating revenue for the. It also gives your council a very visible means of demonstrating your participation and support of this State Council event. All councils are strongly encouraged to participate by purchasing an ad Decide on the size of your ad and either draw it up yourself or have someone do it for you. The program book chairman will provide you with a copy of last year ad if necessary. Please submit your ads to the program book chairman by in a word or jpeg format. Arrange funding authorization if necessary, and ensure it is all done on time. 16 Religious Christmas Card Program Keep Christ in Christmas" by sending religious Christmas cards. Send religious Christmas greeting cards has been a rallying cry over the past several years. As Knights of Columbus we are expected to live the faith we embrace. One of our strongest beliefs is that Jesus, Our Savior, was born of the Virgin Mary. There is a very easy and simple way to exhibit our beliefs in this secular society; send religious greeting cards, even to our non-catholic friends and associates. Request and use the religious postage stamps also. A beautiful, varied, and inexpensive assortment of these cards is available through the State Council. There is no better program available that enables us to send seasonal greetings the proper way and to make money for our charities at the same time. The cards have been very popular. Each year the number of councils participating and the number of cards sold have increased. They virtually sell themselves. With a little time and effort, this program can and will be your most successful and profitable of the season. Take advantage of this very worthwhile and profitable program. Cards may be ordered from the State Council program chairmen. Cards will be on display, and chairmen will be available to take and distribute orders at the Grand Knights Seminar, program meetings and Chapter meetings. 17 Fraternal Activities Program The State Fraternal Activities Chairman is responsible for recognizing anniversaries, birthdays, noteworthy accomplishments, get well wishes and condolences to members of the. While this is a State function, it would serve each council well to appoint a similar position to recognize those events of members of the council. The State Fraternal Activities Chairman is available to assist and advise councils in establishing or enhancing this position within the council. 18 K of C License Plate Program The special Knights of Columbus license tags, which contain a five-color emblem of the order, followed by four numbers are available. These special tags may be used on automobiles, multi-purpose vehicles or trucks, and may be interchanged between any of the three. The Knights of Columbus license plates may be obtained by following the following procedures. 1. Complete a copy of the approved application, including the member s signature. 2. Send application along with a check made payable to the Maryland State Council, Knights of Columbus for $35.00 (this fee is a one-time charge) to the State Council chairman. Your application will be forwarded to the Motor Vehicle Administration. 3. Your new license plates will be mailed directly to you. When you purchase these new tags, the MVA will transfer the remaining time on your present registration and provide you with new stickers. After receipt of the new tags, please return your old tags to a MVA office and obtain a receipt (failure to do so will result in a fine). 4. Please provide your council number. 5. 19 Financial Secretary Advisor The advisor will counsel and advise the Financial Secretaries and Grand Knights of the subordinate councils of the in all matters pertaining to the duties of a financial secretary. He will also conduct a number of Financial Secretary seminars in the fall to help Financial Secretaries keep abreast of the frequent changes in their duties and requirements The Financial Secretary is obviously a key person in the financial affairs of a council. The advisor can help him become aware of and understand the various rules and restrictions put upon him by the Supreme and State Councils and by the state and federal governments. Besides financial and tax matters, the Financial Secretary Advisor will work closely with the State Membership Team in advising the Financial Secretary on the complex rules for membership recruitment and retention. The Financial Secretaries duties are many and complex; training is a necessity for his success. Even experienced Financial Secretaries need training to refresh their knowledge and to keep them abreast of ongoing changes.
