2 Tech Prep Education/ECE Summit MINUTES Meeting date time 4/9/2015 8:00 AM Meeting location Building 2, Room 334 Meeting called by Type of meeting AGENDA TOPICS Jess Moore Year-end wrap-up/updates Attendees: Anne Manning, Michelle Claggett, Connie Marshal, Becky Kleinhenz, Lisa Powell Presenters: Phyllis Adams, Nancy Sikora, Jess Moore Agenda topic ECE 1100/1101 Outcomes and ECE/EDU Department Update Presenters Nancy Sikora and Phyllis Adams Item 2.a. on agenda. Nancy announced that all of the ECE teachers had submitted their outcomes to her for ECE 1100/1101. Sometime during April or early May, Tim Bryant should be sending out electronic credit capture forms for these courses. Teachers are requested to complete the forms by assigning an A, B, or C to each student listed on the form. If the student did not earn an A, B, or C then teachers are to leave the space blank. Item 2.b. on agenda. Phyllis Adams shared some updates regarding the ECE/EDU department at Sinclair. There is a possible degree program in development for students who are interested in education and wish to transfer to a 4-year college or university. Also, a new ECE curriculum will be rolled out for fall 2016 in order to comply with a directive from the OBR requiring that Associate degrees total 65 semester hours maximum. Changes include the removal of SOC 1101, OTM electives, and the Arts and a Humanities OTM course and the addition of PSY EDU 1103 Educational Technology is set to lose its TAG designation, but the ECE department intends to keep it in the ECE program as an elective. Agenda topic Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium Update Presenter Jess Moore Covered items 3.a-d on agenda. See ECE/ET PowerPoint (slides 4-5) Item 3.e College Credit Plus (slide 7): MVTPC is working together with ODE, OBR and Sinclair Community College leadership to clarify CC+ initiative and TP. Tech Prep as we administer it, is not CC+ in that sense that it is articulated credit, not transcripted credit. In CC+, the students are enrolled in the class while attending high school, and receive a grade at that time. In Tech Prep, they are not. They only receive credit for the course: After they graduate When they register for an actual SCC course If/When they request the credit Therefore, our Tech Prep (as currently offered) does not meet the requirements of a 15 or 30 hour pathway. The only way we could meet the requirement is if they actually signed up for the course (like CC+), were assigned a grade (no opting in or out of having the grade count) and paid $40 per credit hour (just like CC+ courses). More information will be coming forward from Sinclair Community College leadership as we move forward with CC+. Agenda topic EDU 1103 and ANGEL to elearn Conversion Presenter Jess Moore Agenda item 4.a. Any Tech Prep teachers who would like to offer EDU 1103 (3 semester hours) as a course offering should contact Jess Moore for details. So far two ECE teachers are offering it with John Graham as their course liaison. Teachers with M.Ed. degrees should be qualified to be given Sinclair adjunct faculty member status and teach the course. It is probably best
3 offered as a fall course. As mentioned above, interested Tech Prep teachers should contact Jess Moore for more information. This course is useful/appropriate for both ECE and Teacher Academy programs. Agenda item 4.b. See slides 9-10 on PowerPoint detailing the LMS transition from ANGEL to elearn at Sinclair Community College. There are self-guided learning modules for teachers to access via with a network username and password (same as used for ANGEL). Agenda topic OBR/ODE Update Presenter Jess Moore Agenda item 5.a.
