Exploring UC/CSU Course/Major Requirements ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official central data location of articulation for California s public colleges and universities, providing the most accurate and up-to-date information about student transfer in California.

Priority Registration New regulations will continue to reward students who are making progress toward their academic and career goals, while also granting priority registration status to some first-time students. Incoming freshman, and other first-time students, will be eligible to sign up for classes during the college s initial registration period, provided they complete all the steps associated with the college s mandatory SSSP (matriculation) process by the end of April, 2016.

Community College Student Success and Support Program or SSSP (formally Matriculation) Apply Online CCCApply Apply for Financial Aid Orientation Assessment Advisement & First Semester Plan FAFSA *Introduces you to the colleges programs, services, policies, expectations. *Complete Math/English Placement Tests *Online or In-person assistance with choosing your classes for first semester

Priority Registration (Cont) First-time students who complete the SSSP (Matriculation) steps and qualify for priority registration = a successful first semester. IVC offers priority registration for 2 semesters!! Check with your community college. By registering early, students will also have a better chance of enrolling in the key courses they need to fulfill their general education requirements, satisfy course prerequisites and quickly complete their degree and/or transfer to a four-year school.

The Assessment The score earned on the Math/English Assessment Test will be used to determine the first Math /English course you will take at the community college. Math and English Assessment Sessions last approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. ESL Assessment Session lasts approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Students need to review the material of their last Math/English courses before taking the test to make sure they are placed at the correct level. Placement in a lower level will increase the number of semesters students will need to achieve their goals.

How to Prep for the Math Assessment It s recommended that students review ALL levels of math as many of the placement tests start off with the lowest level and get progressively more difficult. IVC now has a new prep tool to prepare for the assessment test in math: MyMathTest, click on this link: MyMathTest The course identification number is XL1Y-H13Z-801Y-7EV2. The cost for access is $ A calculator may not be used when taking the Math Assessment Test. Math Study Guides

How to Prep for the English Assessment As a example, IVC uses the College Test for English Placement (CTEP) to assess students' skills in reading comprehension and writing. This assessment test is recommended for native English speakers. The CTEP is composed of 3 tests: Reading Comprehension: 7 reading selections and 35 multiplechoice questions, Sentence Structure and Grammar: 30 multiple-choice questions, and Sentence and Syntax: 40 multiple-choice questions.

How to Prep for the English Assessment Students are given 65 minutes to complete the CTEP, though each test section is timed independently. English Study Guides

Where are Assessment Tests Administered? WHS collaborates each year with OCC and IVC to offer the Math and English Assessment Test on our campus. Students register in the spring with Mrs. Lancaster, the College and Career Center Specialist. Students may also schedule an appointment to take the examination on the CCC campus by contacting the assessment center Students with disabilities may qualify for accommodations, however, it is critical they contact the Students with Disabilities Services Center several weeks prior to the assessment test date.

Retest Policy Check the specific policies with your community college. At IVC, you are permitted to take the Math Assessment every 3 months and the English and English as a Second Language Assessment every 6 months. Writing Sample Once you receive a recommended initial placement into a basic skills writing course, and you wish to be placed into a higher level course you may do so by providing a Writing Sample. Complete the Request for Prerequisite Clearance and schedule an appointment for an Assessment Test. Inform the Matriculation Specialist you are seeking a higher placement by providing a Writing Sample.

Using Courses from Other Colleges and AP Scores to Satisfy the Assessment Test Reqt You may be able to satisfy the Math or English Assessment test requirements that are part of Matriculation with verified completion of Math or English courses from other colleges or Advanced Placement test scores. As an example, at IVC, the Math and English Assessment Test requirement can be fulfilled with: Math and English courses from other colleges completed with a C or better that are equivalent to IVC Math and English courses AP Calculus AB/BC and Statistics tests scores of 3 or better AP English Language & Composition test scores of 4 or better You may be required to submit a completed Request to Clear Prerequisites form with complete college transcripts or AP Score Reports (unofficial copies accepted) to the Office of Admissions and Records.
