2 What is College Credit Plus? Ohio State law - College Credit Plus gives high school students the opportunity to take college courses and receive college credit for FREE, while still in high school. You will earn High School & College Credit simultaneously.

3 College Credit Plus (CCP) offers general education classes that you normally take during your freshman and sophomore years in college in English & Social Sciences and Math & Science. Choose between two plans offering 15 and 30 credit hours. It also includes a variety of optional classes from which to choose.

4 Who can participate? Beginning with the school year all Ohio public high schools and public colleges and universities are required to participate in this program, and so every student will have the chance to apply in grades Students are allowed a maximum of 30 hours per academic year. In , the state has added summer school opportunities. The academic calendar starts May 1 st for the school year.(these hours will count towards the 30 hour maximum) You must meet certain course completion or test score requirements to show that you are academically ready for classes.

There are several options for taking classes: At your own high school, taught by a high school teacher* At your own high school, taught by a Sinclair instructor* At any of the five Sinclair locations, taught by a Sinclair instructor Online, taught by a Sinclair instructor and proctored by a teacher from your high school *Check with your school for high school campus options

7 By passing a CCP class at Sinclair, you are guaranteed to receive both high school and college credits for the same class! And CCP courses are given the same grade weight as AP/IB and other Advanced Standing courses!! 9 Academic Eligibility Requirements English & Social Sciences 1. Successful completion of two units of College Prep English/Language Arts with a minimum of a B average and the high school s recommendation, OR 2. An ACT score of >18 in English or SAT > 430 in English, OR 3. Score college ready on the Accuplacer in English

10 Math & Science 1. Successful completion of Algebra II or its equivalent with a minimum of a B average and the high school s recommendation, OR 2. An ACT score of >22 in Math or SAT > 520 in Math OR 3. Score college ready on the Accuplacer in Math

11 WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY COLLEGE CREDITS? You can use your CCP college credits to continue your education at Sinclair to complete a certificate or associate degree program. After high school graduation you can also use your credits to transfer to another Ohio college or university to complete your associate or bachelor s degree. Most Sinclair credits transfer easily to other public Ohio colleges and universities. You should check with the college or university you plan to attend for specific information on transferring credits.

13 Student Success At Sinclair, early college credit students had a 93% course success rate compared to 65% for all other students.

14 What Success Will You Create? C.V. Mitchell IV C.V. Mitchell, a 2014 graduate from Jefferson Township HS, earning his Associate of Art Degree in Liberal Arts along with his HS diploma also played football, basketball, was on the track team and was part of the National Society for High School Scholars. Mitchell is attending Ohio University where he is majoring in pre-physical therapy. Lauren Magee plans to graduate from Fairborn Digital Academy in June, Lauren started taking classes at Sinclair in the spring of 2013, so that she could start earning college credits while in high school. She has excelled in the classes at Sinclair maintaining her GPA of 4.0, while taking a variety of elective classes as well as advanced math and English courses. She plans to transfer her Sinclair credits to Wright State University after she graduates from high school. Lauren Magee

15 Important Things to Consider.. CCP courses are REAL college courses for REAL college credit; the grades will go on your student s permanent record. Before enrolling, make sure your student is ready for the demanding work a college class will require, or it could hurt his or her chances at college acceptance down the line Carefully consider the academic value of any class your child is considering. Make sure the classes are working toward a degree or certificate in their chosen field.

16 What happens if I take a college credit plus course and fail? The WLS board will be presented with a policy for students who are not successful in CCP. The student/parent will be required to repay the cost of each credit failed. If a student in not successful in CCP or withdraws AFTER the 14 th day of class, the student/parent will be required to repay the cost of each course and textbooks. Before enrolling, make sure your student is ready for the demanding work a college class will require, or it could hurt his or her chances at college acceptance and financial aid down the line.

17 Is my student Ready for college work?? In college students are expected to take charge of their learning. Sometimes even students with good academic skills have trouble their first year or two because they haven t developed the habits of successful learners. Let s find out..

Returning Students to CCP must: Complete the Intent to Participate form with your High School by April 1, ALL Students must do this every year. Register for courses using your Tartan Card ID for courses not offered by a WHS adjunct or proctor. Date TBA All full time, part time and CCP lab courses must register for classes through Sinclair. New Students to CCP must: Complete the Intent to Participate form with your High School Complete the Sinclair Authorization form by April 30 th Complete online College Credit Plus application by May 1st Meet eligibility Requirements: High School Transcript ACT Scores or SAT Scores Accuplacer
