INTRODUCTION The purpose of this articulation agreement is to identify the general education core courses (hereafter referred to as Ohio Transfer Module) a student at an Ohio public institution (listed above and hereafter referred to as sending institution) must complete as part of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree to be guaranteed to have completed the general education program requirements for a baccalaureate degree program at Northern Kentucky University (hereafter referred to as receiving institution). The guarantees and limitations below describe the minimum requirements for general education course credits to which Northern Kentucky University agrees. PART ONE Students who complete an AA or AS degree and the prescribed general education course curriculum identified in the Ohio Transfer Module as defined in this articulation agreement and are admitted (with no academic deficiencies that require additional coursework) to a receiving institution participating in this agreement are guaranteed the following: Full General Education Program Certification as defined by the Ohio Transfer Module curriculum that assumes a common body of knowledge. No additional lower-division general education courses will be required for student to complete. The same graduation requirements as students who begin and complete a degree program at the receiving institution. Students enrolled in applied science degree programs will have their coursework evaluated on a course-by-course basis to determine the award of credits to satisfy requirements for the general education program. PART TWO: POLICIES Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, as calculated by the college from which they graduated. Students must be academically eligible for re-admission to the last institution attended. Students must meet all application deadlines at the receiving institution including the submission of all required documentation by stated deadlines. Completion of the curriculum prescribed within this articulation agreement does not guarantee admission to Northern Kentucky University. Students must meet all admission requirements at NKU including the submission of all required documentation by stated deadlines.
Only courses with grades of D- or higher are guaranteed to transfer. Academic degree programs may require a C or better in specific courses to count toward satisfying degree program requirements. Admission to the receiving institution does not guarantee enrollment in a specific degree program. Some programs at the receiving institution have controlled entry due either to space limitations or academic requirements. The credit and course transfer guarantees described in this agreement apply to the specific general education program requirements covered by this agreement. This agreement does not guarantee that a student will not be required to take an additional general education course if course is required as a prerequisite for a specific major or the major requires a grade higher for a course than the student has earned at the sending institution. Students who wish to use credits awarded by exam, such as AP (Advanced Placement), or IB (International Baccalaureate), to fulfill specific course requirements are responsible for consulting with the institution to which they are considering transferring to determine whether the credits they have been awarded by exam meet the standards of the receiving institution for specific course equivalents. The receiving institution will accept all applicable credits earned within ten years prior to transfer to the receiving institution. Credits earned more than ten years earlier will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Because of the limitations above, students should consult with the Transfer Service Center at Northern Kentucky University to assist in determining specific general education requirements for individual degree programs. This policy is not retroactive and is for new students entering NKU beginning with the spring 2014 term that have completed an AA or AS degree and have a transcript showing degree completion in Ohio from Fall 2010 forward. PART THREE: REGULATIONS Transfer of Credits Northern Kentucky University establishes the procedures governing the transfer of credits for students who transfer from an Ohio Community College. This agreement applies only to the General Education Transfer Module, not transfer to a specific major within Northern Kentucky University. Eligibility To be eligible for the transfer of credits under this agreement, the student must graduate from an Ohio Public Institution with an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science
(AS) degree having completed what is commonly called the Ohio Transfer Module, as defined below. Students must have an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and a grade of D- or better in all Ohio Transfer Module courses. Definition of the 36-hour Ohio General Education Core The associate in arts and associate in science degree programs at Ohio community college institutions require a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit for graduation. Within the overall total, the Ohio institutions have developed a general education core component or Transfer Module. This curriculum reflects the distribution of discipline areas commonly included in institution-wide, lower-division general education requirements for a baccalaureate degree. The transfer module categories will also satisfy Northern Kentucky University s regional accreditor s minimum standards. The general education transfer module includes study in the areas of English composition, oral communication, humanities, arts, natural sciences, mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. Within the module, community colleges must include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, and fundamental mathematical skills. The semester hour credit distribution of the general education transfer module is as follows: English Composition 6 semester hours Two English composition courses are required Oral Communication 3 semester hours One oral communication course is required Mathematics, Statistics and Formal/Symbolic Logic 3 semester hours One course in mathematics, statistics, or formal/symbolic logic is required Arts/Humanities 6 semester hours Two courses identified as arts or humanities from two different disciplines are required Social and Behavioral Sciences - 6 semester hours Two courses identified as social and behavioral from two different disciplines are required Natural and Physical Science 6-7 semester hours Two courses identified as natural sciences, one course must include a one hour lab Interdisciplinary Studies 3 semester hours One course identified at interdisciplinary studies is required
One additional course designated as a general education course at sending institution. Procedures for the Transfer of Credits Transfer of credits for students completing an associate in arts or associate in science degree program at an Ohio Public Institution: Ohio Public Institution transfer students who have completed the Ohio general education transfer module or core will be considered to have fulfilled the institution-wide, lower division general education requirements at the receiving institution. Requirements for admission to some major programs may require additional prespecialty courses beyond the pre-major taken at the community college. All courses approved for transfer in the Ohio Transfer Module are designated as fulfilling general education requirements. Procedures for Transfer of Credit for Special Populations Transfer of general education transfer module (core) courses for nongraduates Upon admission to Northern Kentucky University, students who have completed the Ohio general education Transfer Module or core with the proper distribution of hours, but who have not completed the associate degree, will be considered to have fulfilled the institution-wide, lower division general requirements at the receiving institution. To be eligible for inclusion in this policy, a student must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of transfer. Certification of completion of the general education transfer module for non-graduates is the responsibility of the community college at which the core is completed. The transcripts of students who transfer before completing the general education transfer module core will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis by the receiving institution. The transferring student who has not completed the transfer module core must meet the receiving institution s general education program requirements. Transfer of Associate in Applied Science degree course credits Upon admission to Northern Kentucky University, an Ohio Public Institution student who was enrolled in an associate in applied science (AAS) degree program and who satisfactorily completed the courses with a grade of D- or better in all courses that are designated for college transfer will receive credit for those courses on a course-bycourse basis.
Transfer of courses on a course-by-course basis Upon admission to Northern Kentucky University, an Ohio Public Institution student who was enrolled in a Ohio general education course and who satisfactorily completed the course with a grade of D- or better for courses designated for college transfer will receive credit for those courses. The receiving institution will determine whether the course will count for general education program, major, or elective credit. PART FOUR: APPROVAL Northern Kentucky University is committed to an annual review of the details in this agreement to adjust them for any relevant curricular changes at either institution. In the event of such changes, Northern Kentucky University will permit an Ohio Public Institution student covered under this agreement to designate a catalog year (for purposes of applicable requirements) up to two years before the matriculation date at Northern Kentucky University. This transfer agreement will take effect upon the affixing of signatures of the Parties named below. Signatures: This agreement will require the signature of the Provost.
