3 After spending 30 years in the International Logistics Business, & Carissa spending her working life as an organisational psychologist in the corporate world, we decided it was time for a change. We wanted to work for ourselves rather than someone else. Most importantly, we wanted to be in an industry where we could feel we could make a difference, both to our customers & our staff. Both of us had always had a gym membership & valued working out as an essential part of our daily routine. When given the opportunity to choose any career we wanted, the fitness industry was the obvious choice. After spending 6 months researching various franchises & fitness chains, we decided to purchase Genesis St Kilda Road, in December We chose a Genesis Franchise because it was a well-established franchise, focussing on building profitable clubs, & not soley focussed on selling new franchises, which tended to be the mantra of many 24/7 only franchisors. Since joining the franchise, we have enjoyed the support & care of many of the key stakeholders. You can t under estimate the value of having someone work on your business, whilst you are working in your business. With the help of the organisation, we have been able to take our direct debit membership from under 700 members, to over a 1000 in Four times we have won the quarterly sales award for most memberships sold for a club under 1500 members. Our most memorable moment was when we won the sales award for best club under 1500 members, the door prize at the quarterly launch, & the spinning wheel 1st prize. All at the same launch! My advice to anyone considering a gym franchise is to do your homework, ask existing franchisees what they think of the franchisor, if the club is not a new start up, how long has it been there & what has the growth been. 8 QUESTIONS?... HERE ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED ONES! What Is My Initial Investment? Depending on the type of club you operate the investment can vary greatly. Clubs which start from nothing have a higher investment point due to fit-out of the premises and equipment costs. We would be happy to discuss with you in more detail the investment needed as the amount required would vary depending on the type of facility you are looking at. Do I Require Business Experience To Operate A Franchise? No. Whilst experience in owning/operating a business would be regarded as advantageous, it is not imperative as part of the selection process. Am I Required To Work In The Business? Not always. Although we do believe that the most successful Franchisees are those which are run by the actual owner of the club. There are opportunities to invest into a business which is already operating. In most cases though the best head start you can give your business is to commit yourself to it so as you can fully understand every aspect of the operation. As your business grows and you have appropriate staff in place your hours required in the business may be less. As part of your franchise induction, you will be required to visit and work in an existing site. Will I Have Exclusive Franchise Territory? Yes. We have an exclusive geographic boundary which ensures your business has the required area to be profitable. We don t believe in placing franchised clubs so close together that you are effectively competing against people who are on the same team. Is Training Provided? Yes. As a new franchise owner you will be required to attend our head office for an induction to the Genesis system and procedures. You will also have ongoing support from our Regional Business Managers who will assist with regular site visits and telephone support. We also offer comprehensive training for your team via our national training curriculum. What Are The Steps Required To Obtain A Franchise? The first step is to fill in the expression of interest via our website so we can contact you to discuss the opportunities with you in more detail. From this an initial conversation will take place where we will provide futher details on the application process shoud you wish to proceed. FAQ'S

9 HOW TO APPLY TO BECOME A GENESIS FRANCHISEE The following is the process flow from application to opening. 1. Download Genesis Franchise E-Brochure via Genesis Website If after reading the information, you are are interested in becoming a Genesis Franchisee, please submit your expression of interest via the Genesis website. 2. A Franchise Development Manager will call you to discuss your enquiry and answer any further questions To proceed further you will then be required to complete and send back an expression of interest form and confidentiality agreement. 3. A Franchise Development Manager will call you to discuss your completed application, franchise territory, site location details and discuss any further questions For a new franchise application you will be provided with a business plan template and supporting tools to assist in completion. 5. Once approved, Genesis will confirm site location, Franchisee Application & Business Plan ü Disclosure document is then sent to Franchisee ü Draft franchise agreement sent to Franchisee ü Franchise Code of Conduct sent to Franchisee You will need to make an informed decision. The Franchising Code of Conduct states that you cannot enter into a Franchise Agreement until at least 14 days have elapsed from receipt of the disclosure document. Franchise Agreement is signed and initial franchisee fees paid. 6. Development approval is approved through Council ü Begin site fit out ü Begin pre-opening membership sales campaign ü Celebrate your Genesis Fitness Club grand opening! 4. Once you have secured a territory, Genesis will assist you with selecting and negotiating on a suitable location A meeting will be arranged to approve your franchise application. THE NEXT STEP
