2 Welcome Welcome to our Career Panel event. It gives you the opportunity to talk to to former students who studied similar subjects to you, and have gone on to be successful in their careers. You will meet alumni at different stages of their career who are able to offer advice and guidance. You will have the opportunity to ask them questions about their individual career paths. At the end of the session, we will break and you will have the opportunity to network with our alumni informally. Here you can ask follow up questions, seek additional advice and exchange contact information. After the event Get LinkedIn - now that you ve met some people working in the sector you re interested in, connect with them on LinkedIn and discover more about them and their employers. Find your subject of interest and try to gain as much experience as possible through; helping other students, voluntary work, work experience, internships and working part/full time. You will gain invaluable advice, transferrable skills and will have many examples to use for applications and interviews. Started working at Euro Car Parks as a HR Assistant Started MSc Human Resource Management (Part-time) at MMU Whilst studying volunteered as a Career Mentor (MBF) and did work experience within HR (The Co-operative) Graduated with a BSc (Hons) in 2014 Worked as a Service Delivery Advisor at The Co-operative Lewis Barker BSc(Hons) Psychology 2012 Trainee Market Researcher Join the Dots Really take the time to get to know how you work well. It will mean that interviews and starting new jobs are wholly less stressful as you are giving yourself more control. Volunteered as a PASS leader in 3rd Year Graduated with a BSc(Hons) 2:1 in Psychology in 2012 In 2014 started work at Join the Dots based in the NQ as a Market Research Executive Began working as a Residential Lettings Administrator at an agency in Fallowfield in 2012

The competition is fierce so things like work experience, profile building, researching and networking during your degree will get you noticed over others. Managers are looking for enthusiastic graduates with the potential to develop from entry-level upwards, so be sure to convey this. 2011: Obtained and began a Business Masters (MSc) Scholarship : Successfully carried out work placements within marketing departments of: Walk the Plank, Manchester Confidential, Dabs.com and Betfred Digital now: Built up and manage the Marketing Communications Department, an integral part of the business 2012: Graduated and started working at ActiveWin Media, a Digital Marketing Agency, as Marketing Communications Manager Elaine Tyler BSc Psychology 2013, MSc Organisational Psychology, MBS 2014 Research Consultant (Trainee Occupational Psychologist) Royal Navy Be passionate and driven about what you want to do. Look for opportunities to improve your research skills part-time jobs or volunteering for organisations such as the DOP and BPS will give you relevant experience and valuable skill sets. This will also allow you to network and find out more about the types of work you might like to go into. Currently training to obtain the Qualification in Occupational Psychology which will allow me to apply for chartered membership and register with HCPC as an Occupational Psychologist Graduated with a BSc(Hons) in 2013 Graduated with a MSc in 2014 Started working for the Royal Navy as a Research Consultant

5 Annabel Garnham BSc(Hons) Psychology 2014 Senior Recruitment Consultant The Digital Recruitment Company For anyone interested in recruitment I d have to say that they need to be prepared to jump in with both feet. Any experience within a sales environment would be of benefit, but that isn t crucial. What we look for is a University Degree (Minimum of 2.1), a positive work ethic and a resilient, determined attitude. An excellent phone manner and a lively personality will go a long way. But most importantly you will need to possess limitless ambition to match ours and a real drive to be the best. As of February will be managing and training a new team member Recruitment Consultant I graduated on the 7th of July 2014 and started working with my current employer on July 9th! Associate Recruitment Consultant July November Louis Bluckert BSc(Hons) Psychology 2011 Sales Channel Manager Mars UK Take advantage of what is available at university to build your CV, there s a huge range of things which will add value. Don t overlook the small things I often quote being a waiter at Pizza Hut as an important part of my career! Focus on the culture of the organisation you are joining as it will have a huge impact on your experience. Speak to people in the careers you are applying for to really understand them, with hindsight I don t think I would have enjoyed all of the jobs I applied for because I didn t take the time to really understand what they were. Now managing a team of 4 people Signed off the scheme following a third placement, also in sales Graduated in 2011 and started the Mars Management Scheme in September Worked in a factory in Melton Mowbray for 1 year Moved into Sales for my 2nd year

You are young enough to change your mind and try new things. It is important however to decide what your differentiator is. What is your personal brand? Finding out who you are, what you like, what you are good at and what you want to be known for will help you define who you become in the working world. Use your time at University to support your personal brand - fill your cv with transferable skills and evidence that you seek out opportunities and apply yourself. Whether this is through work experience, volunteering, university groups or networking (it is so important to build a good network!). You have the perfect platform to get organising, leading, or be a team member and make a success of it Role change, responsible for global corporate campaigns, employee engagement 2015 Graduated from Imperial College 2014 Promoted to Marketing Manager 2013 Began an 18 month executive leadership course at Imperial College 2013 Completed the graduate scheme Volunteered as a peer mentor and student representative Graduated with Started working BSc(Hons) in at Mace in Psychology Manchester on their graduate scheme as an Assistant Volunteered as a peer mentor and student representative Graduated from Cambridge Marketing College with Diploma in Marketing and Communications 2012 Moved to London (still working with Mace) 2012 Promoted to Assistant Manager responsible for public sector marketing portfolio
