1 In order to provide a comprehensive catalog of offerings to meet the diverse and unique needs of each of our employees, the following courses will be available to all Humble ISD employees this summer. Please note that dates, times, and locations are subject to change and all employees should refer to each individual offering in Eduphoria: Workshop for the most current information. : Critical Courses As we continue to build upon Writing Across the Curriculum and Questioning to Increase Rigor, it is imperative that each department send at least one representative to the subsequent courses in the Critical Courses section. English Language Arts Reading (ELAR) lead4ward: Figuring Out Figure 19 Volume 2 lead4ward: K-2 Shining Bright Using multiple texts and genres, participants will learn Figure 19 routines to move students from shallow readers to students who read deeply. K-2 is when the foundation for learning is laid and thus, a critical time to ensure kids get off to a great start! Application to all content areas will be addressed through a variety of high yield strategies, collaborative discussion, and developmentally appropriate learning stations. 3 Efficiency in Strategies: A Focus on Strip Diagrams (2 Days) Participants will learn the most efficient strategies for using strip diagrams/ bar models and how to effectively guide students to use appropriate representations to show their thinking. Efficient strategies for strip diagrams will be aligned vertically by concept in order to show the progression of student understanding. 7 New Counselor Group This training will allow new counselors the opportunity to develop their skills in a small group setting. 7/23/2015 All new counselors Making Connections with the Whole Child Building Community in the Classroom ADHD and Tier 1 Interventions Making Connections with Reinforcers & Consequences Making Connections with Music & Movement In Making Connections with the Whole Child, participants complete the DISC assessment and relate temperaments to students and their strengths and needs in the classroom. Participants also complete learning styles and multiple intelligence assessments. The assessments are utilized as a tool in addressing instruction and assessment in the classroom setting. Connecting to students where they are and providing a safe place to share feelings and practice social skills through the use of class meetings. This workshop explores specific characteristics of students with ADHD. Looking below the surface of the iceberg participants explore interventions that can be used with ADHD students as well as all students to increase academic and social success. This workshop focuses on a deeper understanding of the function of behavior as well as how behaviors satisfy needs. Participants will use this knowledge to develop relevant reinforcers and reasonable and rational consequences to increase desired behavior and decrease undesired behaviors.
