The ability to offer aromatherapy as an adjunct to medications in the perioperative area greatly enhances patient satisfaction. I have seen a decrease in pre-op anxiety and less anti-nausea medication being used postoperatively. The patients love it. Allina Health nurse OVERVIEW Would you like a way to talk with leadership at your hospital or health system about starting a safe, cost-effective aromatherapy program? Would you like research-based evidence supporting reductions in pain, nausea and anxiety with the use of essential oils? Have you struggled with the process of implementing an aromatherapy program in your hospital or health system? This workshop will provide clear instructions on procedural steps to create a sustainable aromatherapy program for your hospital or health system. ABOUT ALLINA HEALTH S AROMATHERAPY PROGRAM The Allina Health nurse aromatherapy (essential oil) program was created through the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing by two nurses who are certified in aromatherapy. More than 21,500 aromatherapy applications were delivered to approximately 15,800 unique patients. Nurses documented patients pain, nausea and anxiety scores pre- and postaromatherapy using a 0-10 scale. Patients reported decreases in pain, nausea and anxiety by percent. Allina Health continues to expand the use of essential oils into hospice, home care and clinic settings.
