1 Dr. Edward F. X. Wolfe Woodside Falls Road Pineville, NC OBJECTIVE To empower students to become problem solvers and to have my work with them be an inspiration in helping them make a difference. EDUCATION Doctorate of Chiropractic, Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, MO 2001 Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, MO 1999 Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, University of Fredonia 1986 ADDITONAL COURSEWORK Certified Sports Practitioner in the state of NC, 2003 CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES Chiropractic license for the state of North Carolina PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Full Time Faculty South Piedmont Community College (SPCC); Monroe, NC; August 2010-Present Hired in August of 2010 to teach and develop courses in Biology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, General Biology and Pathophysiology. Currently teaching classes that are seated, blended and online using various technologies to do so (MOODLE, Blackboard Collaborate, Turning Point, Power Point (Microsoft Office) and various publisher software that gives students access to everything from online books to human cadaver lab software). Accomplishments on a yearly basis included: Fall Spring 2013 Academic Year: Incorporated Turning Point Technologies into classroom lectures and activities as a means of assessing student knowledge and work ethic. Fully integrated my classes with new features from MOODLE to promote active learning. Features used included having pre-assignments to practical exams that needed a certain score in order to sit for the practical. This active learning approach saw an increase in test scores from 20-40%. Develop new labs in all classes that generate creativity to better learn practical knowledge. One example was the creation of a new dissection in which students performed a laminectomy on a fetal pig to learn of the intricacies of the spinal column, spinal cord and brain. Integrated digital microscope technology into all of my classes. Integrated Elmo technology into all classes for the purposes of displaying dissections to classes.
2 Utilized Blackboard Collaborate (aka Elluminate) into all online classes to help with communications between teacher/student. This technology was used to post video lectures, video dissections and virtual meeting rooms for classes. Videoed all lectures and posted them for all online classes to help enhance online learning. Served on the two hiring committees for Sociology and Psychology instructors. Served as the committee chair for the Workload Committee that was organized to address changes to the faculty workload. Served on the Program Review Committee which was established to approve goals set by each discipline. Served on three committees to approve Master Moodle courses built by other instructors. Was one of four faculty members chosen to participate in the etext pilot with my BIO 165/166 online classes in the Fall and Spring semesters. Was one of two faculty members chosen to participate in piloting the ASUS tablet for consideration for future use. Advised students on career paths and class schedules. Fall Spring 2012 Academic Year: Nominated for Faculty of the Year Incorporated the online templates for the biology classes built in the summer of 2011 across the entire Biology curriculum. Developed a course for Continuing Education to help their massage therapy students learn anatomy. Worked closely with the Continuing Education people on this project to make it suit their needs. The course helped create a class that, for the first time, had all applicants passing their state licensing board exam on their first attempt. Wrote and implemented the activity that is being used to assess all biology classes. Developed lessons focused on an active learning philosophy to encourage student participation and responsibility. Helped to promote the school in activities like Free College Day and Career Cruiser. Served on an etext committee to compare the options of bringing in these services vs the traditional textbook. Served as Committee Chair for the hiring of the Chemistry faculty position which began January Served on the committee to hire the vacant Vice President of Arts and Sciences position. Served on the Online vs Seated Parity Team to address the pros and cons of online teaching versus traditional classes. Attended workshops on topics concerning Generation NeXt and how to deal with the modern day student and manage activities to induce active learning. Served on the Faculty Standards committee for the SACS audit which dealt with coming up with a standardized criteria on the process of hiring faculty.
3 Advised students on career paths and class schedules. Fall Spring 2011 Academic Year: Independently built all courses through Moodle to suit student learning outcomes and institution/instructor expectations for the course. Contracted to build the online master version for BIO163 (Basic Anatomy and Physiology), BIO165 and BIO166 (Anatomy and Physiology I and II) classes that launched in the Fall of This template is now being used by all Biology instructors who teach this class. Utilized Moodle based programs for assistance in management of course material. Incorporated many internet based material and modules to increase student education. Created and implemented student presentations for other departments to come into our class to learn about Anatomy and Physiology. Assigned to work on a committee to develop and implement the Problem Solving Core Skill Rubrics to be implemented in all classes with this outcome as their form of assessment. Served on a committee to evaluate and approve master MOODLE classes created in various disciplines. These master courses serve as templates for all faculty to use and incorporate into their classes. Participated in the Anson County Career Fair to help promote the school to prospective students. Participated in Free College Day in which students and I turned our classroom into a learning environment for members of the SPCC community. Advised students on career paths and class schedules. Adjunct Professor Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC); Charlotte, NC; Present Hired in 2004 to teach and develop courses in Biology including Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Basic Anatomy and Physiology and Introduction to Biology in all formats (seated, mixed/blended and online). All classes taught have a lab and online components to them. Built all courses through Blackboard to suit student learning outcomes and institution/instructor expectations for the course. Experience and comfort teaching classes as both a lecture and online instructor. Developed all teaching materials and formats to suit the particular class (skill level and online vs lecture based). Trained in computer software made available through Blackboard/Moodle type programs. Prepared all lectures, assignments and tests from required textbooks and materials. Classes are taught from an anatomy/physiology perspective with a focus on the human systems and how they all work together in achieving homeostasis. Incorporated many internet based services to help the student while in the classroom.
