4 New location in Poland Convenient Core Return Processes BOOST FOR USED PARTS MANAGEMENT. Consistent and transparent labeling of remanufactured parts makes the entire process even more professional. Industrially remanufactured components are in demand in the aftermarket since the advantages speak for themselves: High quality with warranties similar to new parts, a major contribution to environmental protection, and the opportunity to offer customers attractive terms and conditions for a repair appropriate to the current market value are just some of the highlights. ZF Services remanufactures a wide range of products industrially at 14 locations in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. The systematic and above all simple return of used parts (known as cores) is crucial to remanufacturing. Here, the digital CoremanNet system, which manages the return process, provides support. Parts such as clutches, steering gears, and steering pumps can also be surrendered at a central collection point, which significantly simplifies the logistics processes for the wholesale partners. The Środa Wielkopolska return facility in Poland started operating just recently. At these collection points, a selection report is created and the customer is reimbursed a predefined deposit value within a few days. The joint project between Bosch and ZF Services should achieve return rates of up to 90 percent in order to provide remanufactured units throughout the country. The focus for the future is on expanding the system all over Europe. 5 NEWS Telematics app Order+ Management With a Finger Tap DIGITAL SERVICE: ZF offers Openmatics, an open, manufacturer-independent telematics solution with added value for fleet owners. One of the system's strengths is the ability to customize the telematics platform using apps. Order+ now adds a compelling application to Openmatics: The app implemented together with software developer Spedion improves both vehicle utilization and order management. Order+ allows driver and scheduler to share information on the order status using text messages including photo attachments. In this way, they can respond to new orders, avoid empty runs, and improve vehicle utilization. Another advantage: Order+ provides interfaces to a raft of common transport management software systems. Centralized data platform Step -Managed Spare Parts New emission standard Fit for Euro 6 NEW STANDARD: From 2014, commercial vehicle manufacturers will be legally obliged to modify engines and drivelines in accordance with Euro 6. The entire driveline is affected by these changes, especially clutches and torsional vibration dampers. As part of OEM business, ZF supplies many vehicle manufacturers with clutches specifically tailored to Euro 6 engines. Now, ZF Services is also expanding its portfolio: ZF Services will become the first supplier to offer 45 clutch sets, which can be fitted to Euro 6 vehicles produced by Europe s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. They all require spare parts after a short time. ZF Services offers a 95 percent coverage within its core product groups an enormous challenge for data management. The solution is a technical innovation: The centralized Master Data Management system, Step, from Stibo Systems manages all product information from the initial idea through to the market launch of a new spare part. Over a period of 18 months, the new system replaced 15 individual databases and has already proven its worth in everyday operation. ELECTRONIC BRAIN FROM ZF SERVICES parts will be administered by the Step Master Data Management system in the final expansion stage at which point the ultimate in data storage will become the electronic brain for 32 subsidiaries and all product groups. Logistics Center Focus on South America INAUGURATION: ZF Services is stepping up its commitment in South America: The initial step was founding the subsidiary ZF Services Bogotá SAS. A new logistics center is now also taking shape in Brazil, which will be used to ship products from all ZF product groups. We intend to expand the range of existing product lines and increase the number of service locations in order to further consolidate the systems expertise of ZF Services in the South American aftermarket, is how João Lopes, Managing Director ZF Services South America, sums up the objectives. 6 FUTURE INITIATIVE The future starts right now at ZF Services: With a wideranging initiative, ZF Services is honing its ability to respond to customer wishes even better in future. Yet even if a great deal changes quickly, there is one thing you can say for certain today: ZF Services is and remains the first port of call for professionals in the aftermarket. The Future is Shaped by Ideas Your job is not to predict the future, but rather to make it possible. The otherwise very philosophical French author, Antoine de Saint- Exupéry, has both feet firmly on the ground and rolls up his sleeves when it comes to the practical things in life. And he is of course absolutely right, for all too often talking about the future is particularly popular when upcoming challenges are put on the back burner. And how does ZF Services stand with regard to the future? Alois Ludwig, Chairman of the Board of Directors, ZF Services, sums it up no less pragmatically: From now on we all won t just do some things differently, but in future also do completely different things. In other words, nothing will be off limits at ZF Services when it comes to getting up to speed for customers future needs and wishes. The fact that the back burner is not an issue at all at ZF Services in this respect goes without saying. Developing a vision of the future does not mean abandoning old values. To be prepared for these new challenges, the transformation at ZF Services is starting now, says Alois Ludwig: The critical element in our success is not just the ZF Group s cutting-edge technology, but also our ability as ZF Services to provide suitable aftermarket solutions. It is essentially not just about From product supplier to solution provider FROM A SINGLE SOURCE: Innovative automotive technologies call for new solutions for the aftermarket. Shaping the technological revolution supplying a component, but a complete solution, Ludwig adds. For him this ranges, for instance, from training employees, optimal management of workshop processes, through to efficient workshop utilization. And why won t components communicate automatically and directly in future with a fleet operator s service management system to book time for preventive maintenance and repairs in the service schedule? ALOIS LUDWIG Chairman of the Board of Directors, ZF Services Wide-ranging initiative ZF Services embarked on a wide-ranging initiative to devise strategic fields of action for the next decade. How can new customer needs be identified? What products and services will customers demand from ZF Services in future to ensure they have a decisive lead in their business? The interim stage came at the end of 2013 in the form of a high-ranking conference which sounded out proposals in terms of their feasibility. After all, activities that can be implemented rapidly are given priority. Promoting diversity VARIED IS MORE CREATIVE: ZF Services aims to promote diversity in the teams even more. are. So we didn t need to spend a lot of time convincing people, stresses Alois Ludwig, because at the end of the day, ZF Services is one of the business units at ZF which traditionally has had the most pronounced international outlook. Service at the tap of a finger Internationalization of the Group is one example, digitization another. While traditional distribution models still dominate in the traditional domestic markets, a rapid transformation is taking place in the growth markets around the globe, explains Alois Ludwig. Digitization must therefore also be another key area for the future. ZF Services will also have to be present in future distribution channels if it is to offer first-class service consistently. Act globally, think locally The consistent international focus is a further objective and a prime example of the shift in philosophy at ZF Services: More regional instead of central, more local instead of top-down. All of which is an important cornerstone in reinforcing customer orientation by giving the regions greater responsibility. Yet it is a task ZF Services is very familiar with, as Ludwig underlines: ZF Services has always been where the customers DIGITAL AND DIRECT: Online services are rapid, convenient, and time-saving and therefore a high priority. 9 FUTURE INITIATIVE Diversity is the order of the day These are just a few of the topics of the future. A stronger emphasis on diversity at ZF Services will make teams more varied in future. Men and women from all age groups, the disparate continents, and specialist areas will unlock new creative potential. Ludwig specifically adds: We have to abandon old ways of thinking if we want to be well prepared for future challenges. There is also still development potential at ZF Services: For instance, just ten percent of all executive managers are women. Regional instead of central LOCAL COUNTS: The best way of identifying and fulfilling customer wishes is to assume responsibility locally. We aim to push forward, among other things, digital solutions and see ourselves as a pacesetter: The ideas from the dynamic growth regions around the world should also find their way back into the traditional domestic markets so we can offer all our customers next-generation service. The future has already started These examples demonstrate that a vision of the future for ZF Services does not mean abandoning old values, stresses Ludwig. Contacts do not change frenetically, but are always on hand. That provides the time to garner experience and grow with customers. That s already the case today and will remain so in future too. Helmut Ernst (54), a proven industry expert, will take over the management reins at ZF Services. 10 KNOW-HOW Expert Know-How: How to Replace the ZF- Servolectric Safely & Simply Replacing an electronic steering system is simple yet there are a few important points to bear in mind. ZF Services expert Jochen Kessler provides a few useful tips. ZF Lenksysteme GmbH has developed steering technology specifically for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the shape of the ZF-Servolectric electric power steering. ZF-Servolectric is superior to conventional hydraulic power steering systems in many respects since it requires less energy when steering and offers considerable steering precision coupled with superb ride and steering comfort. It can also be replaced simply where necessary. Sophisticated modular kit system If the steering gear needs to be replaced, say after accident damage, the entire Servolectric steering system is replaced. There is no provision for replacing individual components. ZF Services therefore supplies the ZF-Servolectric under the ZF Lenksysteme product brand as a complete, fully functional system module. Consequently, the replacement is extremely simple: remove, install, fix in place, connect electrical wiring, code the steering system, install the characteristic curve, and align vehicle, finished. 11 More information: DATASHEET ZF-Servolectric: Smart and Economical ZF-Servolectric operates with an electronically controlled electric motor and replaces the conventional hydraulic system. At its heart is an innovative transmission concept, which combines a rack-and-pinion steering gear with an electric motor and hence provides high efficiency. The sophisticated control electronics in the ZF-Servolectric also feature numerous sensors that monitor parameters such as steering angle, steering torque, steering speed, and road speed. On the basis of the recorded data, the control unit calculates the optimum steering assistance. Since ZF-Servolectric only requires electrical energy for the steering assistance function, the fuel savings are considerable: The Servolectric only needs energy when the driver is actually steering. Useful Tips on the ZF-Servolectric Check age: What generation has been installed? The 10-digit article number found on the metal plate attached to the steering gear indicates the component generation. However, generation III steering gears are backward compatible and can therefore also be installed in vehicles which were originally fitted with a generation I or II ZF-Servolectric. Manufactured as a single unit: Only three fixing points The number of fixing points on the steering gear has changed over the production life since the component is now manufactured as a single unit. While the first and second generation still feature four bolt-on points, the current third generation dispenses with one fixing point. New position: Disabling steering angle sensor While the steering angle sensor (SAS) is located on the steering column below the steering wheel in the vehicle with the first two generations, it is housed directly in the steering gear in the current generation. If the generation is changed, an SAS must be disabled with the help of a suitable diagnostics test. If both SASs are active, this produces an error message in the self-diagnosis and the relevant indicator lamp comes on. Characteristic curve: Programming control unit Before the vehicle is handed over to the customer, the ZF-Servolectric control unit must be programmed with the vehicle or manufacturer-specific characteristic curve. There is stipulated programming for each vehicle model that must not be substituted for safety reasons. Only by your authorized dealer: Retrofitting wiring harness If the generation is changed, the cable set between the steering gear and the vehicle electronics has to be retrofitted. This set is vehicle-specific and only available from an authorized dealer. Workshops can obtain the manufacturerspecific article number for the cable set from the WebCat online catalog or the InCat DVD from ZF Services and at TecDoc. Generally, steering gears are safety-relevant components. Only trained specialists must therefore be allowed to work on the steering system since errors may lead to serious accidents ZF SERVICES Up 2 DATE September

Iveco Daily As of 2015, the new Iveco Daily van will be available with ZF s Ecolite 6-speed manual transmission, or also with the 8HP automatic transmission. In addition, ZF supplies dampers and clutch systems, while the steering pump and steering column come from ZF Lenksysteme. Terberg RoRo RT403 ZF's 6WG310 transmission provides six forward and three reverse gears in the tractor made by the Dutch company, Terberg. The 4x4 RoRo RT403 comes with a special lift mechanism to raise the semitrailer and is used in ports and in heavy industry. 13 Audi TT Coupé The new edition of the sports car from Ingolstadt comes with shock absorbers and clutch system from ZF. Electronics and chassis components from ZF as well as the Servolectric electric steering system from ZF Lenksysteme are also on board the Audi TT Coupé. Bozankaya Sileo The new Sileo electric bus from manufacturer Bozankaya features ZF s AVE 130 electric portal axle. ZF will also be showcasing the axle at the IAA. BMW S 1000 R ZF's CDCi adaptive damping system on the front and rear axles enhances safety and ride comfort on the new BMW S 1000 R. 14 INNOVATION Premiere for the Aftermarket With an innovation in suspension strut and shock absorber production, ZF Services is unveiling a new product that is really special. The all-new component is initially destined exclusively for aftermarket usage. 15 This technical innovation is a prime example of the importance attached to the aftermarket and how customers in the spare-parts market can benefit from the entire ZF Group s expertise. ZF Services will be unveiling A VERY SPECIAL INNOVATION at this year s flagship industry trade show, Automechanika in Frankfurt. For the first time, an all-new shock absorber for passenger cars in the subcompact segment will be presented there. Not only is the technology new, but the development objective is too: This technical innovation was actually initially planned by ZF for use in the aftermarket before its subsequent introduction in volume production. As such, this technical innovation is also a prime example of the importance attached to the aftermarket and how customers in the spare-parts market can benefit from the entire ZF Group s expertise. Innovative manufacturing process At first glance (and leaving aside the absence of any paint), the new spare parts look no different from conventional spring struts and shock absorbers. Take a closer look and the differences become apparent. The spring struts and shock absorbers are modularly designed and put together with no welding seams. Instead, ZF is using new joining technologies in the production of shock absorbers. Advanced corrosion protection Instead of the anticorrosion paint, all add-on components are galvanized with a high-quality finish. In addition to effective corrosion protection, this gives the spring struts and shock absorbers an unusual look, accentuating the very high quality and instantly associating the products with the manufacturer ZF. Environmental protection, efficient production The result of the engineers work is noticeably lower energy consumption for spring strut and shock absorber production, coupled with reduced CO2 emissions. Hence, the environment also benefits from the ZF innovation. The intelligent production technology has another strategic advantage, though, allowing for a much faster response to market needs with production capability at new locations. Premiere in the aftermarket Initially, the new spring struts and shock absorbers are, however, aimed at the aftermarket: This year, production will get underway in an initial stage for the Ford Fiesta. Over the medium and long term, the aim is to cover the entire B segment (subcompact cars). Hence, there is enormous potential right from the market launch for the modular spring struts and shock absorbers from ZF Services. KNOW-HOW Expert Know-How: How to Replace the ZF- Servolectric Safely & Simply Replacing an electronic steering system is simple yet there are a few important points to bear in mind. ZF Services expert Jochen Kessler provides a few useful tips. ZF Lenksysteme GmbH has developed steering technology specifically for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the shape of the ZF-Servolectric electric power steering. ZF-Servolectric is superior to conventional hydraulic power steering systems in many respects since it requires less energy when steering and offers considerable steering precision coupled with superb ride and steering comfort. It can also be replaced simply where necessary. Sophisticated modular kit system If the steering gear needs to be replaced, say after accident damage, the entire Servolectric steering system is replaced. There is no provision for replacing individual components. ZF Services therefore supplies the ZF-Servolectric under the ZF Lenksysteme product brand as a complete, fully functional system module. Consequently, the replacement is extremely simple: remove, install, fix in place, connect electrical wiring, code the steering system, install the characteristic curve, and align vehicle, finished. The following page includes some other useful tips! If the generation is changed, the cable set between the steering gear and the vehicle electronics has to be retrofitted. This set is vehicle-specific and only available from an authorized dealer. Generally, steering gears are safety-relevant components. The sophisticated control electronics in the ZF-Servolectric also feature numerous sensors that monitor parameters such as steering angle, steering torque, steering speed, and road speed. On the basis of the recorded data, the control unit calculates the optimum steering assistance. Since ZF-Servolectric only requires electrical energy for the steering assistance function, the fuel savings are considerable: The Servolectric only needs energy when the driver is actually steering.
