2 The SPHR/PHR Program: The purpose of the preparatory course is to assist you to take and pass the Professional in Human Resources examination. You will find that this course will provide important information, critical insights, and valuable suggestions as you prepare to take the PHR/SPHR certification. In many organizations, performing HR-related transactions well is important, but it may not be enough. 3 The PHR/SPHR Preparatory Course Outline The Human Resource Certification Institute HRCI has determined that the HR body of knowledge consists of the six functional areas. The percentages that follow each functional area heading are the PHR and SPHR percentages, respectively: Strategic Management (12%/29%) Workforce Planning and Employment (26%/17%) Human Resource Development (17%/17%) Compensation and Benefits (16%/12%) Employee and Labor Relations (22%/18%) Occupational Health, Safety, and Security (7%/7%) 3 HR QuickStudy Flash Cards are a convenient way to review key human resource terms and concepts. You can quiz yourself with more than six-hundred convenient, business card-sized flash cards. Each of the six units of the Human Resource Certification Preparation Program has a corresponding set of flash cards, each set with a unique color for easy identification. The HR QuikStudy Flashcards are included in the complete program. It is important to note, however, that the flash cards focus primarily on terms and definitions, whereas the exams focus on application. The flash cards, by themselves, are not enough to prepare you for the exam.
