13 EXAMPLES FOR EACH RECERTIFICATION CATEGORY [RESEARCH/PUBLISHING] Conducting primary research on a topic included in the SBM domain, and writing and publishing in a scholarly journal. (Examples: leadership, change management, strategic planning) Must be conducted outside of the workplace (i.e., not part of your job) Articles published in a journal or periodical solely written by the certified professional would earn maximum hours (20) Co-authored or edited works may also earn hours ( up to 10)

21 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND ONLY 15 of the 60 credits a SPHR must fall in the SBM domain. Holders of multiple designations only have to earn 60 total recertification credit hours, but may have more specified credit hour requirements. (Example: someone with an SPHR and a GPHR must earn 15 hours in SBM and 30 hours in International, leaving only 15 general credit hours available) If an activity you have submitted doesn t qualify for SBM credit, it may still earn general recertification credit hours.
22 AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Having the SPHR distinction allows you to demonstrate value by providing the tools needed to impact organizational initiatives They give you the opportunity to earn credits for courses and experiences OUTSIDE of the traditional HR role.
