5 The case for change 2008 Planning begins for a new campus for Penwith Premises propose a new system at Penwith cosgng 43k Proposed system turned out to be another TDM! Premises team were good with buildings but... Time to step aside where telephony is concerned! CST propose an Asterisk pilot for 3.5k scaling to 6k for the full system. Principal concluded the potengal benefit outweighed the risk so the pilot was agreed.

10 What next? - The case for SIP SIP trunks are significantly cheaper than ISDN ITSP s now on JANET so no added connecgvity costs Endpoints can use/share network infrastructure Endpoints can connect over WAN links Trunks between systems peered over WAN are free Geographic independence (numbers become portable) Sepng up SIP resilience is cheaper than ISDN SIP channels can increased or reduced according to demand Scaling benefits with concurrent usage No rent on DDI numbers
