2 DET Single Sign-On account The Department has introduced a new username and password for all users. This includes all staff and all students. This is called the DET Single Sign-On account and is being used by an evergrowing number of systems. The purpose of the DET Single Sign-On account is to reduce the number of different usernames and passwords you need to access DET systems. What is Password Management? Password management refers to how you look after your DET Single Sign-On password. This includes the following actions: 1. Changing your password, when it expires, or whenever you decide to; 2. Setting up your user validation question and answer; and 3. Using your saved question and answer to reset your password, if you forget it. Please note that the following systems now use your DET Single Sign-On account : HRMIS WebMail and Calendar Portal Many more DET applications will be upgraded to rely on the DET Single Sign-On account in the coming months. v1.7.doc Page 2 of 6

3 User Validation Question We now require you to set up a User Validation question and answer. The purpose of this question and answer is to allow you to identify yourself to the system and reset your password, should you forget it. This gives you a much more convenient means of resetting your password, compared to ringing the Service Desk and running through the Department s password reset procedure. v1.7.doc Page 3 of 6

4 Forgot My Password Since we are now asking you to set up a user validation question and answer, we can let you reset your own password without calling the Service Desk. Once you correctly answer your saved question, you will be allowed to reset your password. Passwords set using this screen are bound by the Department s password policy. v1.7.doc Page 4 of 6

5 Changing Passwords You will need to change your password at regular intervals in order to prevent your account being disabled. This is a security measure intended to make it harder for others to guess your password. Passwords must be set according to the DET password policy. This policy requires that passwords: 1. Be at least 6 characters long; 2. Contain at least 1 number; 3. Be changed every 30 days (only for some systems); and 4. Not be re-used until at least 20 changes have taken place. Please Note: Microsoft Outlook MUST be closed when you change your DET Single Sign-On Password. To change your password please go to the link below and follow the steps: 1. Enter User ID (ENumber) 2. Enter current Det Single Sign-On password 3. Click Next 4. Enter New Password 5. Confirm New Password 6. Click Change Password You will receive a message saying that your password has been successfully changed. v1.7.doc Page 5 of 6

6 Changing Passwords (Continued) If you use the Outlook Connector to access your WebMail please follow these steps to reconnect Outlook to the server. Please Note: Microsoft Outlook MUST be closed when you change your DET Single Sign-On Password. 1. Close Microsoft Outlook 2. Change DET Single Sign-On password (As stated in the steps above) Note: This will change your HRMIS, WebMail and Microsoft Outlook Passwords. 3. Open Microsoft Outlook and follow the steps below. After changing your DET Single Sign-On Password, upon opening Outlook, you will receive the following message. Oracle Calendar Server Logon Error: A password is required to log on 1. Click on Retry 2. The Calendar login window should then pop up. Ensure your Account Name is correct 3. Delete the password and enter your new password. Ensure the Save this password in your password list box is ticked 4. Click OK 5. The Oracle Calendar has now been configured 6. At this point another message box will be displayed. 7. The process and pop up windows are identical except that Oracle Calendar will be replaced by IMAP4 IMAP4 Mail Server Logon Error: Unknown user name or password 8. Once again click Retry and enter the new password and ensure the Save this password in your password list box is ticked 9. Click OK 10. Once this is complete, Microsoft Outlook will open. If you enter an incorrect password you may be locked out of the system. If this occurs please contact the CSC on v1.7.doc Page 6 of 6
