Promotion of etwinning at national and regional level In Flanders etwinning is promoted by following channels: Website and weblog brochure Electronic newsletters etwinning Printed newsletters etwinning Newsletters Klascement Newsletters KC & Co Communication via different channels Fairs and information sessions etwinning weeks campaign etwinning Awards Flanders European etwinning Awards etwinning Ambassadors Promotional materials etwinning in the press 2. Technical and pedagogical support to participating schools etwinning flanders provides support for schools by: Helpdesk etwinning Ambassadors Follow up and monitoring of registered schools National workshops Professional Development Workshops and contact seminars Publications, Website and weblog 3. Monitoring of projects and schools etwinning Flanders monitors teachers and projects by: Progress cards and TwinBlogs National etwinning Quality Label and national prizes Case studies Good practices For further information about the monitoring of projects and teachers: see in annex the report about the national achievements Foster the quality of etwinning projects To foster the quality of etwinning projects we provided: - Helpdesk, technical and pedagogical support for teachers. - The network of etwinning Ambassadors: as support for teachers, an inspiration for good practice, tips and ideas. Also we provide support for the ambassadors to foster the quality of these projects. - Follow up and monitoring of registered schools. - National workshops.
5 - Professional Development Workshops and contact seminar. - Publications, Website and web log. In Flanders we actively foster the quality of the projects. As a result the submissions for the national and European prizes, as well as the quality labels have improved. Also the recognition of the etwinning projects in other Awards are good proof of the quality of these projects. Contribution to the European portal The Flemish NSS contributed to the European Portal by - Translations: translations of the newsletter and items for the portal. - Revisions: revisions of the portal, (public pages, TwinSpace and Desktop) - Good practices: contributions for good practices - Newsletter: translations and contributions 7. Collaborative work between NSS and Central Support Service Taskforce - European Network of national ambassadors Online discussions, meetings and preparation of PDW in Varna and Chania. Participation in the PDW of Varna. Recruitment of ambassadors. - Professional Development Workshop for NSS. Groups - Planning of an etwinning group for teacher trainers. Translations - Montly newsletter (in collaboration with Dutch NSS). - Website: public portal, desktop and twinspace (revisions). - Guidelines for revisions. - Other revisions. etwinning European Prizes and conference february 2009 in Prague - Promotion. - Candidates for European Prizes. - Evaluation of projects. - Conference exhibition: stands. - Press releases. 8. Collaboration with other National Support Services. The Flemish NSS works closely together with the Dutch NSS. We share: - publications - translations - ideas and good practice of projects - ideas and good practice of promotion - network of ambassadors - workshop for ambassadors. We keep weekly contact through and telephone. Contact seminar 9-10 October 2009 in Maastricht Collaboration between Belgium French speaking Community, France, Germany, Luxemburg and The Netherlands. One NSS is the host for the contact seminar. The other NSS collaborate actively in the preparation of the contact seminar: - programme, good practices and workshops - selections of candidates

The schools with more than one involved teacher have a diverse profile. Schools with three teachers are De Wegwijzer (Dessel), KA Oudenaarde, MSGO de Moerbei (Moerbeke Waas) and VBS Hemelsdaele (Brugge). Two teachers of KA Oudenaarde participated in the Contactseminar in Maastricht. The school with four teachers is Middenschool Heilig Hart in Bree, where an ambassador and participant of the CS is active. The school with 9 and 15 teachers is VBS Sint Jozef in Lombardsijde and THHI Tessenderlo. In both schools we gave a workshop for teachers in A target group for the following years might be the colleagues of these individual teachers in schools. Our aim should be to involve at least two teachers in one school. A strategy might be to promote the offer to organise a workshop in the particular schools. Note: registrations in previous years were not taken into account! 1.2. In the Flemish Community teachers of ('gewoon') Primary education represent 44.8 % and teachers of ('gewoon') secondary education represent 55 % of the total of teachers. 09/zb_092032_NL.pdf 1.3. 13 Registraties per provincie 2009 Vlaams Brabant en Brussel Antwerpen Limburg West-Vlaanderen Oost-Vlaanderen Registrations per province are heterogene. West Vlaanderen is a very active province. Especially when we compare the number of registrations per province with the school population in that province. While West Vlaanderen only represents 13.4 % of the Flemish School population the province harbours 31 % of the etwinning registrations in Antwerp seems to be slightly underrepresented. Antwerp represents almost 30 % of the Flemish School Population, but is represented with 15.5 % in etwinning. 14 Registraties per maand Reeks januari februari maart april mei juni juli aug sept okt nov dec It is obvious that the start of the new school year (Sept, Oct and November) is a huge boost for the etwinning registrations. The 'etwinning weeks' campaign in October 2009 might be a possible explanation for that. As well as the fact that teachers start planning the school year in September and it is more difficult for them to start new initiatives in the second part of the school year ( January June). The etwinning weeks are a success and the same effort should be invested in the coming years. 2. Projecten 2009 Projecten published 71 % 96 closed 22.9 % 31 waiting 5.9 % 8
15 Projecten 2009 Totaal published closed waiting The majority of the Projects was published in % of the projects were closed. The waiting projects are mostly waiting for the project partner to approve the project, although the NSS has sent e mails to the teachers concerned. 16 Twinspace projecten 2009 met TS zonder TS An overwhelming majority of the projects has no published Twinspace. Only one quarter of the projects actively uses the Twinspace to collaborate and publish. This is possibly because the New Twinspace was only launched in October So training and promotion of the Twinspace should be a priority for the next year. A percentage of the projects were founded by two other countries, who invited a Flemish teacher to participate. We should be careful with these numbers. A few schools have more than 10 projects, which raises the question of the degree of active participation of these schools in those projects. But the surprise is that Dutch, French and German are highly underrepresented in the projects. We should promote more projects in these languages. 20 4. Lessons learnt and plans for the future - etwinning weeks The registrations show that the promotion campaign in October was succesful. In 2010 we will again use the opportunity to promote etwinning to a wider public. - Contactseminar The Contact seminar with neighbouring countries, is an effective way of promoting etwinning and provide training for the teachers. We will continue this in Collaboration with other organisations such as Ryckevelde, Alden Biesen and Europe Direct More efforts could be made to jointly organise info sessions and promotion campaigns. - Other target groups: principals, primary teachers, teacher trainers, pedagogical advisors will be focused on next year. - Local workshops To enhance training and professional development we will organise local workshops in 2010 in collaboration with the ambassadors. - Collaboration with the Dutch NSS We will continue successful collaboration with the Dutch NSS and investigate other ways of collaboration. - Network of Ambassadors We will continue successful collaboration with the Flemish Ambassador Network,
