Great Value FOOD & BEVERAGE FACT SHEET The Makena Beach & Golf Resort s is home to four restaurants and eateries, and provides meeting, wedding and special event catering services. Embracing a make-everything-fromscratch attitude, the Makena Beach & Golf Resort boasts food made from fresh Hawaiian ingredients and inspired by Hawaii s melting pot of ethnic cultures, while providing top of the line culinary experiences at a value. Under the direction of Food & Beverage Director Leo Mallari and Executive Chef Kurt Lesmerises, Makena Beach & Golf Resort has revitalized and supercharged its food & beverage program by introducing new and improved menu offerings and unique food & wine events throughout the year. EXECUTIVE CHEF KURT LESMERISES Although Chef Kurt Lesmerises was born in New Hampshire and spent most of his school age years in Colorado, he developed a passion of food and French cooking during frequent family trips to France. He followed his appetite for French cooking and began his culinary training in South Carolina and finished his formal training at the Colorado Mountain Culinary Institute with on-the-job training at Vail Resorts. His culinary experience on Maui includes sous chef positions at various award-winning Maui restaurants like David Paul s and Merriman s. He was promoted to Executive Chef of the Makena Beach & Golf Resort in August 2015, using his precision of French cooking techniques and a world-class palette for flavor to head the resort s culinary program. DIRECTOR OF FOOD & BEVERAGE LEO MALLARI Joining the team in 2012, Leo Mallari Jr. brings over 23 years of experience in Hospitality Management and oversees the resort s four restaurants and outlets, as well as the resort s various catering and food service programs. Previous to Makena, Mallari served as the Director of Restaurants since 2005 at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua and held such other positions as Director of Outlets, Beverage Manager and Dining Room Manager at the Sheraton Maui, Director of Front Office at the Kapalua Bay Hotel and Villas, Housekeeping Manager at the Royal Lahaina Resort and Front Office Manager and Assistant Food & Beverage Director at the Stockton Hilton in California RESTAURANTS
2 Makena Resort s lobby café proudly brews Starbucks coffee in a top-of-the-line Schaerer Espresso machine. In addition to staple Starbucks drinks, Barista 5400 also serves Italian sodas, fresh fruit smoothies, and a selection of alcoholic beverages including mimosas and bloody mary s. All of the café s food items are made fresh daily in house. Selections include fresh island fruit, freshly-baked banana bread, cookies and pastries. Breakfast items include: oatmeal, breakfast wraps, hot pockets, croissant breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. Fresh-made salads and sandwiches are also available to-go. For a taste of local cuisine, Barista 5400 also serves spam musubi. Open Daily 6 AM - 5 PM. Dress Code: Footwear and Casual. A delightful morning breakfast buffet service and a la carte brunch menu served in a delightful open-air dining area overlooking koi fishponds and beautiful Japanese style gardens and waterfall features. Pax: 152 Island Breakast Buffet Home to Makena s popular Island Breakfast Buffet, guests can feast on assorted season fruit, yogurt parfaits with house-made granola and assorted toppings, variety of cereals and freshly made baked goods, made-to-order waffles, and a gourmet omelet station. Plus chef s daily scrambled eggs with savory toppings and a variety of breakfast meats, potatoes and specials. Prices: Full Breakfast Buffet - $27 Adult; $14 Children (5-12); Continental Breakfast Buffet - $22 Adult; $11 Children (5-12). Ala Carte Menu Café Kiowai s ala carte menu features a fresh farm egg omelet selection and chef s breakfast specialties. Signature dishes include: the Makena Eggs Benedict - two poached eggs, honey cured ham set a top fresh cornbread crouton and topped with a mango hollandaise sauce, Makena Banana Pancakes with toasted Macadamia Nuts and the local favorite, the Makena Loco Moco, a hamburger patty made with lean ground chuck over steamed rice and topped with rich thyme gravy and a fried egg. Prices range from $15- $25.
3 The resort s casual pool lunch spot, offering tasty grilled burgers, fresh fish tacos, sandwiches, salads and fresh made-to-order pizzas served al fresco at poolside. The full service bar serves up refreshing and satisfying island specialty cocktails, brews, wines and a variety of tropical blended favorites. The restaurant s pizzas are cooked in the traditional way, in a 2,900 pound Mugnaini pizza wood-burning oven. Early every morning the chefs load the with local Makena wood called "kiawe" or Hawaiian Mesquite, bringing it up to a temperature just below 750 degrees. The high temperature allows the wood to flavor the pizza made with old-style artisan handmade dough utilizing fresh yeast for that unique flavor, topped with delicious fresh oregano tomato sauce and the best freshest ingredients available. Open daily from 11 AM 5:30 PM. Price range: $10 - $20 Dress: Casual resort attire or Swimwear Molokini Bar & Grille, is premier Maui dining with panoramic ocean and sunset views. Under the direction of Executive Kurt Lesmerises, the menu takes a non-traditional approach to American comfort food, infusing fresh local ingredients, applying traditional French techniques and combining elements of Hawaii regional cuisine to present new taste profiles that will both surprise and satisfy. Selections include its popular Cilantro and Macadamia Nut Crusted MahiMahi or the famed Crispy Molokai Potato Wrapped Lobster Salad. The restaurant features a daily happy hour menu and special menus introduced every night of the week including Lobster Fest Tuesdays and Thursdays with a special three course lobster menu, or try the resort's take on the traditional Hawaiian Local Cuisine with Wednesday Night's Island of Aloha Three Course Menu, or bring the family over on Sunday Nights for the restaurant's three course roast dinner. Every Friday night, the restaurant features their Friday Night Island-Style Seafood Buffet featuring fresh seafood, fresh island produce and dishes inspired by Hawaii s ethnic cultures. Buffet price - $48 adults and $24 for children (5-12). The Molokini Bar & Grille also hosts various holiday special menus and Maui events. Open Daily 5:30 PM - 10 PM. Menu price range: $10-$40. 4 IN-ROOM DINING Makena offers in-room dining, with menus featuring a limited selection of items from the resort s restaurants. Wake up coffee is available each morning from 6:45 a.m. Hours: Breakfast is offered daily from 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.; Lunch from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.; and Dinner from 5:30 until 11 p.m. PRIVATE OCEANSIDE DINING EXPERIENCE The Makena Beach & Golf Resort offers intimate and romantic couples oceanfront dining experiences. The experience is provided in the resort s oceanfront cabanas with a private butler services. Couples can choose from chef special designed three, four or seven course dinner with wine selections. Prices for this memorable experience start at $100 (plus $150 site fee, tax and gratuity) per couple. 48-hours advance notice is required. WINE & COCKTAIL EVENTS The Makena Beach & Golf Resort hosts three monthly event series. The Winery of the Month series is a monthly five course wine dinner with wine pairings from a chosen winery or vineyard. The Food & Wine Education Series features wine education with Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo and a chef demonstration by the resort s chef. The event features three wines and dishes to taste. The Liquid Chef Cocktail Series features a master mixologist, a chosen spirit and five cocktails to taste with appetizer pairings. Dates for each event vary each month.
