During my tenure, USF St. Petersburg was separated from the administrative units of USF Tampa, established colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education, and Business, and prepared for and achieved separate accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The journalism program was accredited by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass communication and the College of Business was accredited in general business and accounting by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Also in 2006, the institution celebrated its 40 th anniversary and opened an $18 million residential housing facility (350 beds) and a $15 million parking garage that houses university police and a retail Barnes and Noble bookstore.
