INVITATION Dear colleagues, On behalf of the Organizing Committee we are pleased to invite you to participate in the International Scientific Conference Vaccinium ssp. and less known small fruits: perspectives of development and health benefits, which will be organized by the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice (central Poland), from 14 to 17 June, 2011 (since 1 st of January 2011 the name of the Institute will be changed to the Institute of Horticulture). The main objective of the Symposium is to provide the further exchange of up-to-date scientific and technical information on Vaccinium species and less known small fruits to participants involved in research, teaching, extension, business, and public services and to promote international co-operation between interested colleagues. The conference program includes oral and poster sessions and a professional visit to a commercial blueberry farm. TOPICS The conference will provide a forum for discussion on scientific advances in all topics listed below. Presentations related to these subjects are welcome and will be grouped according to the following thematical categories: Genetic resources and domestication Breeding and cultivar evaluation Cultivation and propagation techniques Fruit quality, biochemical composition and nutritional value Pests, diseases, weeds, and their control Postharvest physiology and processing Attendees are invited to submit papers, which will be presented either as 20 minute oral presentations (including 2-3 minutes for questions) or as posters. The Scientific committee will accept papers for oral presentations. Invited speakers will provide overviews of the state of the art in several topic areas LANGUAGE The official language of the conference will be English. ABSTRACTS A book of extended abstracts will be printed and handed out at the conference to participants. Abstracts should not exceed 3 pages, including tables and figures and contain the following information: Title of the presentation (bold capitals); Name(s) of the author(s) underline the presenting author; Institution(s); Address(es); e-mail; Key words, Text of abstract. The abstract must state the aim, time and place of the work, materials and methods and the results. The font must be Times New Roman, 12 points, with single spacing; paper A4, the margins: top 2,5 cm, bottom 2,5 cm; left 3 cm, right 2 cm. The text must be adjusted to fit the margins. IMPORTANT: The presenting author must register in full for the conference no later than 15 April 2011 or any submitted abstract will be withdrawn from the program. It is the author s responsibility to provide an accurate abstract; any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific statements will be printed as prepared by the author. ORAL SESSION: Each presentation will take 20 minutes (2-3 min. for questions and discussion included) Presentation must be prepared using Microsoft Power Point POSTER SESSION: Posters must be within 90cm (width) x 120cm (height) and should remain in the poster room for two days. Authors are requested to hang up their posters during the morning of June 15. IMPORTANT SYMPOSIUM DATES (DEADLINES): Registration March 15, 2011 Submission of Abstract March 15, 2011 Payment of participation fee April 15, 2011 PARTICIPATION FEE: The fee will be 200 EUR. The participation fee will include the printing of extended abstracts, coffee breaks, lunches and a conference dinner. Optional - Post-conference tour will be organized to the largest blueberry farm in Poland (North-east Poland). Additional payment for this tour will be about 40 EUR. CONFERENCE PLACE The conference sessions will take place at the main building of the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice. Skierniewice is a small city of 50.000 inhabitants, located in Central Poland, 70 km southwest from Warsaw).
