INTRODUCTION Dear Colleague Introduction Letter from the Executive Headteacher I am delighted to see that you are considering applying for this post here at Wade Deacon High School. We are extremely proud of our learning community and how pupils and staff work together in order to achieve the highest possible educational outcomes. This application pack is designed to help you decide whether or not you feel this school is one in which you would like to further your career by helping our young learners to raise their standards of attainment to their maximum potential. I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief flavour of our core purpose. Wade Deacon High School traces its history back to 1507 when the original grammar school was founded by Bishop William Smythe. The main building was opened in 1931 as Wade Deacon Grammar School, named after Sir Henry Wade Deacon a prominent local industrialist. The school became fully comprehensive in 1974 and is set on a large campus with extensive playing fields and very good sporting facilities. We are an extremely successful, over-subscribed school with 3 designated Specialisms: Technology, Mathematics & Computing, and Training School. In 2012, 100% of pupils gained 5+ A*-C GCSE grades and 76% of pupils gained 5+ A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. 30% of all pupils achieved A* or A grades. Wade Deacon was named Times Education Outstanding Secondary School of the Year in 2012. In our recent Ofsted inspection we were judged Outstanding in every single aspect. Inspectors concluded that Wade Deacon lives up to its aim of being committed to excellence in all aspects of its work, and no areas for improvement are identified in the report. The Specialist Schools and Acadamies Trust recognises us as a High Performing Specialist School and a Lead Gifted and Talented School. We have been awarded the prestigious Diamond Award for Cultural Diversity and the SSAT National Conference Award for the Cultural Diversity Quality Mark. Wade Deacon High School was awarded Highly Commended for its work with partner schools. The National College of School Leadership has recognised us as a National Support School with the capacity to assist other schools who also aspire to attain such excellence. INTRODUCTION We offer an environment in which respect, courtesy and integrity towards other people abound a wide range of extra-curricular activities with particular strengths in creative arts, drama and physical education many opportunities for pupils to contribute to and enhance the life of, our wider community a variety of social activities to engage pupils of different ages, abilities and interests Throughout school, pupils are encouraged to take pride in themselves, their actions and their achievements. We have high expectations of pupils academic work and the manner in which they conduct themselves around the school campus and in the community beyond. An orderly and disciplined environment is a key feature of our work in school. High levels of attendance are expected throughout each year group in school so that everyone can take full advantage of the range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities available. Our current whole school average attendance is 95%. Regular homework is an integral part of the learning culture of the school. Tasks set are intended to broaden and develop each individual s scope for independent learning. Pupils can access their own workspace on the school s computer network from home via the internet and using the learning platform. The general welfare of pupils is closely monitored by the Personal Tutor and Year Team Leader. The Year 7 Tutor team will remain with their tutor groups throughout five years and are the main point of reference for parents when contacting school. Teacher of ICT and Computer Science MPS For September 2013 start. We seek to appoint a committed and dynamic teacher who can deliver outstanding lessons across all aspects of the ICT/Computer Science curriculum. The successful candidate will be joining a high performing faculty which consistently provides a stimulating curriculum enabling all pupils to achieve their potential. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a track record of high quality teaching and purposeful learning in their current teaching post or from their secondary school placements. Job Specification Line Management: The post holder will be accountable to the Leader of Business, Careers and ICT for all initiatives related to this post. Job Purpose: To be responsible and accountable for all aspects of the progress, attainment, care, guidance and support of identified groups of pupils in ICT and Computer Science across all year groups and the quality of learning and teaching in the classroom. JOB SPECIFICATION Job Accountabilities: The class teacher is responsible for: the learning and teaching of every individual pupil in his/her care, across all year groups working collaboratively with subject colleagues to improve the quality of lesson planning and resources and making direct contributions to the Departmental Self-Evaluation Form (DSEF) as part of his/her professional development and the Professional Standards for Teachers the thorough preparation and planning of all lessons in line with a whole school framework reflecting the Secondary Strategy guidance designed to promote pupil learning making effective use of ICT to provide interactive learning opportunities for pupils using the whole school Assessment for Learning framework to monitor the progress of individual pupils and personalise the learning; this includes planning and delivering objective led lessons with clear, differentiated outcomes; the use of mini-plenaries and using the whole school marking policy using pupil progress and attainment data available in Progress2Success to monitor and evaluate the progress and attainment of all pupil groups i.e. FSM; ethnic minorities; SEN; girls; 9
