Wireless Solutions for Environmental Monitoring and Process

Solutions for Waste Management Landfill Leachate removal from a landfill well is a primary requirement. Although different types of pumps are used, these need to be installed with a totalizing counter to monitor the pump cycles and to calculate the total volume of leachate that is being removed from the well. Instead of manually monitoring the leachate level and collecting the pump count data, the FlexPower Counter Nodes are used to wirelessly send data continuously from the pumps back to a central control location to save time and to eliminate errors. t 1 3 measuring points spaced at 0,5 m to guarantee hygienization of compost Biogas To meet governmental regulations, it is important to accurately monitor methane gas production, removal, venting, and burning. Knowledge of both methane flow and temperature at the flare stack can define when CH 4 is being emitted to the atmosphere. The DX99 FlexPower Nodes can be installed in EX area with a Zone 0 ATEX certification. Use the analogue input to determine methane production levels and flow and use the thermocouple model to measure the temperature of a vent to verify the continuous combustion of methane. t 2 Composting Temperature Monitoring To efficiently compost waste, continuous temperature readings are required from the compost windrow. Manual data collection and risk of contamination are eliminated using a SureCross Node equipped with a dedicated thermocouple probe to automatically monitor the compost temperature. Temperature sensor readings are wirelessly transmitted back to the or host system for real-time data collection, analysis, and logging. Timely and accurate temperature data helps operators determine the optimum time between compost rotations. Accurate temperature monitoring is also required to ensure compost achieves the minimum temperature required to kill dangerous bacteria. t 3 2 Banner Engineering EMEA www.bannerengineering.com/eu 3

Solutions for Water Treatment Pumps & Flow Wastewater influent has to be pumped from the different pipes to the water treatment plant. The total incoming and outgoing volume has to be measured by flow meters. A battery powered counter Node collects all pulses and transmits them to the control room. Liquid Level Detection Banner offers unique power management capabilities. This would allow a single wireless Node and a Flexpower optimised QT50U ultrasonic level measurement sensor (range 8 meter) to run about four years from a single DX81 battery power supply (at 15 minutes sampling interval). RS485 Sludge Level Monitoring multiple sensing points including sludge level but also ph, conductivity, and flow often from varied locations in a large water treatment plant can be a challenge. With four analogue inputs, a single SureCross Node can easily centralize and transmit critical monitoring information from multiple Sensors. The MultiHop Data Radio will allow communication between all remote controllers or PLCs using RS485. 4 Banner Engineering EMEA www.bannerengineering.com/eu 5

Process & Instrumentation Embedded Wireless Option Zone 0 (Group IIC) Zone 20 (Group II) Class I, Div 1, Groups A, B, C, D Class II, Div 1, Groups E, F, G Class III, Div 1 OEM solution Banner offers a printed circuit board solution to sensors or instrumentation manufacturers who would like to add a wireless option for their devices. 45.72 mm This PCB solution is available as a premapped DX80 to have your 0-20 ma signal on both Node and, and as a MultiHop Data Radio for RS485 communication (including a repeater function). 60.96 mm Solutions for Sensors Application example for Industrial Gas Detection Solutions Solutions for Controllers Typical Network Radars Flow Meters Pressure Transducers Temperature Sensors DX99 Intrinsically Safe Nodes DX99 2.4 GHz Nodes for Hazardous Locations, ATEX Zone 0 & 20, compatible with DX80 s (located outside Ex area) Model Discrete IN Analogue IN Power (18 V boost) Housing DX99N2X1S1N0M3X0D5 1x NPN 1x 0-20 ma (29 s warm-up time) or 2x 0-20 ma, 1x 3-wire RTD (standard warm-up) Internal Battery Metal 6 Banner Engineering EMEA www.bannerengineering.com/eu 7

Wireless Remote I/O Concept Cable Replacement: Tank Level Monitoring Example Frequency and Range Banner wireless network uses FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) protocol to ensure secure data communication. The frequency band is 900 MHz for US and Canada or 2,4 GHz for the rest of the world. The range is up to 3 km line of sight. Settings The rotary switches are used to set the radio module ID. Internal DIP switches, depending on model, define communication settings or device configuration. Standard Cable Installation Advantages of Wireless Communication Compatible with all sensors Quick and easy installation Cost effective Perfect for renovation I/O Types The radio modules give the possibility to connect up to twelve inputs and outputs, including different signals such as: 0 20 ma 0 10 VDC PNP / NPN Frequency Counter Thermistor Thermocouple PT100 Bridge RS485 RS232, Up to 47 tanks per Node Industrial and Rugged IP67 housing ensures long-lasting performance in challenging environments and outdoor applications. Housing has a standard 80 x 80 mm footprint. Once connected, the User Configuration Tool will define the one to one I/O linking and setup parameters of the wireless system. It is the perfect tool to test applications and check installations.
