Installing the VPN 1. Close any open applications. 2. Visit http://www.tesd.net to install/download the VPN only once to your home computer. Scroll down on the home page and click on User Options on the left, then Sign In. Log into the website using your network user name and password. On the District home page, click on the Technology section found under the Departments channel at the top. On the left, click on the Virtual Private Network page. 3. You must complete all steps on the VPN page. Please follow the links to download either the Windows or Mac versions of the software on your home computer. 4. The program will install the software to a default location on your computer. 2

Installing the VPN (cont.) 5. Once setup is complete, it will need to restart the computer -- please allow it to do so. 6. After you have restarted your computer, save the TESD Teacher VPN.pcf file to your desktop. This file is found on the VPN page on the website (Step 2). You may save this file by right-clicking on the file hyperlink found in Step 2 and choosing Save Target As Save the file to your desktop. Once saved, move (drag/drop) the file into the VPN Cisco Client folder found on your computer hard drive. 3

Accessing and Using the VPN 1. Once installed a shortcut VPN icon should be placed on your desktop. Double-click on the icon to open the VPN. If no shortcut appears, click in the All Programs section of the Start menu and look for an entry named Cisco Systems VPN Client. Inside it, click on the icon for VPN Client. 2. In the VPN Client window, if TESD Teacher VPN info does not appear under the Connection Entry column, click on Import. Direct to your VPN Cisco folder found on your computer s hard drive. Click on the TESD Teacher VPN.pcf file and click OK. The TESD user name and password credentials should appear in the VPN Client window. Click once to highlight the Connection Entry, TESD Teacher VPN, and click on the Connect button. 3. After a moment, a login window should appear. Type the username and password for your TESD network account and click OK.

Accessing and Using the VPN (cont.) 4. In the VPN client Welcome window, click Continue. 5. Once you are connected, you will see a gold padlock on the bottom of your desktop task bar (near the clock). TESD network resources are now available. 6. To disconnect from the VPN, rightclick on the padlock icon in the taskbar and select Disconnect. Reminder: In order to access network resources such as the Elementary Progress Report System (TAC), IEP Plus, or your network folders, you must be connected to the VPN first. If the gold padlock is locked, then you are connected and can proceed. If the gold padlock is unlocked, then you must first connect to the VPN following the instructions in this handout. 5

Accessing the Elementary Progress Report System (TAC) 1. Connect to the VPN first (follow the instructions beginning on Page 4 of this handout). 2. Once connected, open your Internet Explorer web browser. 3. In the address bar area, type the following address: http://esp/tac 4. Click Go. 5. A log-in window will appear. 6. Enter your network User Name and Password into the fields. 7. When you do log in, you may save the site in your Favorites folder. To do so, click Add in the Favorites menu. 6

Accessing IEP Plus 1. To access IEP Plus, connect first or stay connected to the VPN. 2. In your Internet Explorer web browser, type http://172.16.0.37/iepplus. 3. Click Go. 4. Log in user your IEP Plus User Name and Password if prompted. 7

Setting up a Shortcut to Access Personal Storage Folders 1. Once successfully connected to the TESD VPN, right-click on the Windows desktop. 2. In the menu that appears, go to New and left-click on Shortcut. 3. A Create Shortcut window will open. 4. In the Type the location of the item: field, enter: (Replace username will with your TESD user name - i.e. smithj.) For Elementary staff, enter: \\fileserver1\users\username For TEMS staff, enter: \\temserver2\staff\username For VFMS staff, enter: \\vfmserver2\staff\username For CHS staff, enter: \\chsserver2\staff\username For ESC staff, enter: \\resource\users\username When typing this location, be careful to use the \ key located directly above the Enter key found on your keyboard. 5. Click Next to continue. 8

6. You may need to log into the fileserver before a shortcut is created. 7. In the user name field, type tesd\ before your username. If you find this doesn t work, try typing your username and password without the tesd\. 8. Enter your network password. 9. Click Ok. 10. Enter a name for the shortcut or use the default name that is typed into the field. 11. Click Finish. 12. A shortcut to your personal storage folder on the fileserver will now appear on your desktop. Note: The newly created shortcut will access your personal storage files whenever first connected via VPN. Simply double-click on the icon. If prompted for a user name and password, enter your TESD user name (with tesd\ before it for example: tesd\smithj) and your password. Depending on how many files are contained in the personal storage folder, it may take a few moments for the window or its contents to appear. Please be patient. 9

Help If you encounter any complications with the installation or use of the Virtual Private Network, please contact the TESD HelpDesk at helpdesk@tesd.net. Please provide a specific description of the difficulty you are experiencing. 10
