How do you access your Private and Public folders and use the internet? For security reasons, direct access from your personal computer to the Internet and college servers is not possible. You must use the terminal server to get to the internet and to access your network folders, email and other network resources. Overview: First connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client and then remote desktop to terminal server ecstudent-ts. Connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client 1. Verify that your connection to the internet is working. 2. Start Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client (Win 7) Start, Programs, Cisco Click Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Click Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Optional: Make a desktop shortcut to start VPN and double click it whenever you want to start VPN. Right click on Cisco AnyConnect VPN client, Send to, Desktop (create shortcut) 3. Connect to vpn.etown.edu Group: Select 1-Non-College-Owned_Computer Username: Password: Click Connect This is your network username This is the password you specified when you filled in the VPN form Note: Your VPN password never expires Revised 02/03/2012

4. Click Accept 5. Allow time for VPN to start. You may see this message. 6. Display the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon in your system tray (Win7) Click the arrow in the lower right corner near the clock. Click Customize 7. Scroll to find VPN User Interface. Next to Hide icon and notifications, click the list arrow and seledt Show icon and notifications. Click OK. 8. Whenever you are connected to Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, the icon will be displayed in the system tray. Connect to Terminal Server, Set Options to Use Home Computer Files, Printers, Clipboard 9. Start, All Programs, Accessories, Remote Desktop Connection 10. Computer: ecstudent-ts Click Options Arrow Note: Options only have to be set once 2

Click Local Resources tab Check Printers (this allows you to print to your home printer) Check clipboard (This allows you to copy and paste from the ecstudent-ts terminal server to your local computer.) 12. Click More Local devices and resources Check the devices and resources you wish to use your VPN sessions. during Click OK 13. Click OK Collapse Options click the arrow Next time you log in, you won't have to set options. Just click Connect. 14. Click Connect 15. Check Don t ask me again for connections to this computer Click Connect 16. Click OK 3

Copy a File from Private to Your Home Computer 1. Start My Computer Double click your user drive this is the one with your user name and $ 2. Double click Private 3. Right mouse click the file to be copied Click Copy 4. Double click My Computer 6

5. Under Other Double click C on (your home computer's name) 6. Double click Documents and Settings 7. Double click the name of your folder 8. Double click your name's Documents 9. Right mouse click in an empty area inside Documents folder 10. Click Paste 11. Copied file is located in the My Documents folder on your personal computer 7

Advanced Steps and Tips The VPN logon and access to the ecstudent-ts terminal server procedures can be enhanced by creating shortcuts. Email can be accessed by opening Outlook which will automatically be configured to your account. Working on the remote server allows full use of the internet. You cannot connect to the internet from your personal computer while connected to VPN. Browser Favorites can be copied from your home computer to the Terminal server. The goal of the ecstudent-ts terminal server is to give you an up to date, secure computer system to access college network resources. The terminal server works best if the terminal server window fills the screen (maximized). Create Desktop Shortcut to My Computer on the Terminal Server 1. On the terminal server 2. Click Start, point to My Computer, RIGHT mouse click 3. Click Show on Desktop 4. My Computer icon on ecstudent-ts terminal server desktop Create Desktop Shortcut to Private Folder on the College Network 1. On the ecstudent-ts terminal server 2. Double click My Computer desktop shortcut or Start, My Computer 3. Under Network Drives Double click your drive 8

4. Right mouse click Private Click Send To Desktop (create shortcut) 5. Shortcut to Private on desktop Print to Your Home Printer 1. Because you checked Printers on page 3, step 11, you can print to your home printer 2. From any program on the ecstudent-ts Terminal Server, bring up the print dialog box and choose your local printer Internet 1. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO USE THE INTERNET ON YOUR Personal COMPUTER 2. Use Internet Explorer on the ecstudent-ts terminal server 9
