Meet: Obed Brew Programme Leader International Nursing and Healthcare studies As a student Obed studied at University of Hertfordshire, Royal Postgraduate Medical School Hammersmith Hospital, and Imperial College London. He has been teaching, conducting research and writing about genomics healthcare, human reproduction, diabetes, long-term conditions, and behaviour modification and has enjoyed passing on his experiences to both home and international students at the University of West London. the genes for histamine receptors are expressed in juxtapositions with the histamine metabolising enzymes Diamine oxidase at the feto-maternal interface during pregnancy. His work has also shown that histamine mediates expression of specific genes whose proteins are associated with protection of human pregnancy, but increasing concentration of the amine triggers a different set of gene expressions that could complicate human pregnancy. Obed s work on diabetes has seen him design and deliver courses for companies like Novo Nordisk UK, several NHS Hospital Trusts in UK including Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and overseas companies such as INSCOL Academy, India. He is also a founding member and current Secretary for the African and Caribbean Diabetes Foundation UK. Obed s main research is on gene expressions in complications of human pregnancy and the use of mobile learning technologies to support learning in practice. His work on complication of human pregnancy was the first to show that 52
