3 F412 Four years Forensic Science with Foundation Year This course offers you the opportunity to be taught by industry-focused and experienced staff providing you with a professional start to your career in forensic science. ** On graduation you may specialise in particular aspects of forensic science for example: reporting officer, scene of crime examiner, fingerprint expert, imaging specialist, accident or fire investigator, firearms expert or pathology specialist. You may also go on to study for a Masters degree or undertake a research degree leading to an award of Doctor of Philosophy. The technological advances in crime detection require the creation of highly trained forensic scientists. This course has been designed to meet this need. The course is highly multidisciplinary in nature, encompassing aspects of science, psychology and the law. The foundation year introduces you to the fundamentals of biological and chemical science, as well as aspects of physics and mathematics. This preliminary foundation year is designed to equip you with the relevant skills to successfully complete the honours degree. After completing the foundation year, you will automatically continue your studies, leading to the Forensic Science. The final year incorporates an experiential learning element. This allows you to spend a period of time in employment within an external organisation providing you with valuable work experience. The course culminates in a project/ dissertation, which brings together previous study modules into a major piece of evidence-based, academic work. You will be encouraged to present your work at health psychology conferences.
