Students are responsible to check the Spring 2015 test dates and times posted by the Virtual Campus for different campuses. Students must notify the instructor when and where they will take the paper test one week before the testing period begins.

GRADING POLICIES The final percentage will be determined by dividing the total number of points earned by the total number of possible points, 860. The following scale will be used to assign the final grade: A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, and F= 0-59%. In addition, please refer to the College Catalog for information concerning the specific conditions under which a grade of W can be assigned. Two proctored paper exams (@ 150 points each) One writing assignment Six Take-home assignments (total) ALEKS 7 Objective pie (8 points each) Five ALEKS assessments (@ 18 points each) Final ALEKS comprehensive assessment (@ 20 points ) Proctored paper final exam Total = 300 points = 5 points = 139 points = 56 points = 90 points = 20 points = 250 points = 860 points Your grades will be housed in your MyHACC D2L under gradebook. TAKE HOME ASSIGNMENTS A writing assignment and six required take home assignments will be posted at myhacc D2L under Content. All students must submit take home assignments electronically in.doc,.jpeg, or.pdf and upload to myhacc D2L dropbox. Late submissions will not be accepted. All take home assignments must be saved with file name of the format: Your last name M 103 take home # Take home assignments with correct answers but no work shown will be returned and not graded. Typing is NOT required. Handwritten work must be neat, legible in white background, and on separate sheets. ONLINE HOME WORK IN ALEKS PIE ALEKS ASSESSMENTS ALEKS 360 is the website that housed the online work. Go to the link, http://www.aleks.com/about_aleks, to learn more about ALEKS. For each chapter, objectives are selected and assigned as the online HOME WORK within the www.aleks.com site. Each chapter will be a slice in the ALEKS pie. Follow the above schedule to complete each slice of the pie. If you finish early, ALEKS will move you into the next slice. Be sure to complete all the topics in each slice to ensure success in this class. Number of points earned = percent x 8 points, round to 1 decimal place When students first log on to the www.aleks.com site, students must go through an initial assessment of their knowledge and mastery skills. Be sure to take time to go through the initial assessment and follow the instructions. Five ALEKS assessments, one for each chapter, have been scheduled. Students are required to log on to www.aleks.com to take the assessment during the posted period. Click the Assignment button for the schedule which is also posted above. The sixth ALEKS assessment is a comprehensive one. It is set up to help you prepare for the final exam. It also will provide valuable data as how you do in the course. Each ALEKS assessment will go live for two days. Each assessment result will provide important data of how well you learn, master the skills, and are ready for the paper tests. It is not a timed test, but you must complete the assessment within the posting period. Number of points earned = percent x number of points assigned (18 for the regular and 20 for the final one), round to 1 decimal place OFF-SITE PROCTORING If you cannot come to one of the campus locations to take your proctored pencil and paper exam, you must notify the instructor as soon as possible. If you need an off-site proctoring arrangement, a test proctor form must be completed and mailed to the instructor for approval. The instructor will then forward the form to the Virtual Learning for the final approval two weeks prior to your requested test date(s). You can download the guidelines for securing an off-site proctor and a proctor form from the Virtual Learning web site. http://www.hacc.edu/students/testcenter/upload/virtual-learning-off-site-proctor-form.pdf

PROCTORED PAPER TESTS MAKE-UP TEST POLICY ADD/DROP POLICY OTHER INFORMATON DELAYED OPENING 1. The Mathematics and Computer Science Department requires proctored paper testing for all online math courses. They are pencil and paper tests and will be given during the test periods posted by Virtual Learning. Paper Test Schedule: February 18-19, April 1-2, and May 6-7, 2015 2. Proctored paper tests are 2-hour pencil and paper examinations taken at any one of the five HACC campuses. Students are allowed to bring a scientific calculator or graphing calculator such as TI 83/84. No other electronic device (e.g. cellular phone of any brand, iphone, ipad, Droid, laptop, Apps) with computer algebra system (e.g. TI 89 graphing calculator) will be allowed. No notecards, formula sheets, and books will be allowed. 3. Students must notify the instructor when and where they will take the paper test one week before the testing period. 4. Students are expected to log on to the Virtual Learning web site to check the actual dates, times, and location at their registered campus. http://www.hacc.edu/students/testcenter/testingforonlinestudents/paper-testing-for-online-students.cfm 5. Paper tests will be returned to online math instructors at least two days after the end of each testing period. It will take about a week to get all grading done. Graded paper tests and solutions will be sent to students by mail or email. 6. Final exams will not be returned to students. They will be kept for record keeping. Students can check their course grade via HACCWeb on or after May 15, 2015. 1. There will be no make up for ALEKS assessments. 2. When a student fails to take the proctored exam(s) during the posted testing period, no make up will be given unless the student has notified the instructor by email before the start of the testing period. 3. The make-up test must be rescheduled and taken within one week. 4. With the instructor s permission and within the scheduled time, the student may take the make-up for the proctored test at the Test Center located at his/her campus during the operating hours or make arrangement for other testing facility. 5. Make-up tests are always harder. 6. Only one make up test per student per semester will be given, with no exceptions 1. Click on the following link for Spring 2015 add/drop and refund deadlines http://www.hacc.edu/newstudents/registeronlineguide/add-drop-deadlines.cfm 2. Students can withdraw from a course without the instructor s signature by the last day of the 50% refund period. 3. Students who have completed the course website registration at www.webassign.com but do not complete at least 15% of the assigned work by the last day of the 50% refund period will be dropped by the instructor. It will be the student s responsibility to follow the add/drop and refund deadlines. 4. Click on the following link for Spring 2015 college calendar for the last day to withdraw from any classes: http://www.hacc.edu/students/collegecalendars/14-15-academic-calendar.cfm 5. After the third week of class, students MUST email the instructor with the decision to withdraw using their HACC hawkmail address as required by the Virtual Learning office. The instructor will attach the student s email to a drop form and send to the Virtual Learning office for processing. The last day of attendance will be the due date of the last assigned graded activity or the date of the last email communication, whichever is later, at the time of requesting withdrawal from the class. 1. If a student is found cheating in a test, he/she will receive a grade of zero for the test. 2. If cheating repeats, he/she will receive a grade of F for the course. Be sure to read the Academic Honesty in the Student Handbook. 3. No retests will be given. 4. Test scores will not be curved nor dropped from the calculation of the course grade. 5. Bonus problems are included in each take home assignment as incentives for more practice and an encouragement to learn more. 6. Do not email the instructor at the end of the semester and ask for additional bonus assignment/project. 7. In order to succeed in this course, students are expected to complete all assigned graded scheduled activities and bonus problems, logon to WebAssign website to use the available resources, check posted announcements throughout the semester, and email questions to the instructor. 8. During normal school days, all questions/concerns sent electronically will be addressed within a 24 hours period. It may take longer time during weekend and/or holidays. HACC has approved the following delayed opening schedule for weather-related and other incidents. http://www.hacc.edu/weather/delayed-opening.cfm However, it does not apply to this online math course.
