Students are responsible to check the Spring 2015 test dates and times posted by the Virtual Campus for different campuses. Students must notify the instructor when and where they will take the paper test one week before the testing period begins. GRADING POLICIES The final percentage will be determined by dividing the total number of points earned by the total number of possible points, 880. The following scale will be used to assign the final grade: A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, and F= 0-59%. In addition, please refer to the College Catalog for information concerning the specific conditions under which a grade of W can be assigned. Three On-line tests (@ 40 points each) Two proctored paper exams (@ 150 points each) One writing assignment Six Take-home assignments (total) WebAssign 6 chapter Home Work (8 points each) Proctored paper final exam Total = 120 points = 300 points = 5 points = 157 points = 48 points = 250 points = 880 points Your grades will be housed in your MyHACC D2L under gradebook. TAKE HOME ASSIGNMENTS A writing and six required take home assignments will be posted at myhacc D2L under Content. All students must submit take home assignments electronically in.doc,.jpeg, or.pdf and upload to myhacc D2L dropbox. Late submissions will not be accepted. All take home assignments must be saved with file name of the format: Your last name M 110 take home # Take home assignments with correct answers but no work shown will be returned and not graded. Typing is NOT required. Handwritten work must be neat and legible in white background.

4 ONLINE CHAPTER HOME WORK For each chapter, exercises will be selected and assigned as the online CHAPTER HOME WORK at under My Assignment button with expiration dates which will coincide with the online test/paper test expiration dates. Students need to log on to the site, do the exercises of multiple-choice or open-ended type, and submit through the site. For each chapter, if the percent grade is at least 85%, students will earn the full-credit of 8 points. Otherwise, the number of points earned = percent grade times 8 points, round to 1 decimal place. All online chapter home work will expire at 12 mid-night. Schedules of on-line tests are posted as above and details of each test will be provided in the WebAssign.com site under My Assignment button. Three online tests of multiple-choice and open-ended types are scheduled as stated above. Students are required to log on to the WebAssign website to take the test during the posted period. ONLINE TESTS PROCTORED PAPER TESTS OFF-SITE PROCTORING 1. All online tests will go live for two days. 2. There will be no make-up and no extension for the online tests. 3. Each online test is scheduled to go live at midnight on the first day and expire at midnight on the second day for two days (Monday to Tuesday, Wednesday to Thursday, etc) as posted above. 4. Students should set aside enough time to finish the test in one sitting. 5. Once the test has started, students have to finish the test within the allotted time and will not be able to return to the test later. 6. Each online test has two attempts, take I and take II. The higher score will be counted. 7. Since the test is a timed test, be sure not to take the test during heavy internet traffic hours or the last hour when the test will expire. 8. It will be the student s responsibility to make sure his/her computer, iphone, ipad, tablet, android, other electronic device, all plug-ins, and internet connection in good working condition while taking the online tests. 9. If the student cannot submit the online test because of unforeseen technical difficulty, then he/she should notify the instructor of the situation by immediately. However, the instructor will not be able to resolve any of your technical difficulties such as poor WiFi connection at a hotel. In any case, the second attempt of the test will be counted. 10. All online tests will be reviewed after the end of the testing period. s will be sent to notify students of the review, comments, and/or adjustment of the grade due to partial credits. 11. If a student misses one of the three required online tests or wants to improve the lowest score of the three required online tests, then he/she may take the 4th one at the end of the semester as a makeup or grade replacement. 1. The Mathematics and Computer Science Department requires proctored paper testing for all online math courses. They are pencil and paper tests and will be given during the test periods posted by Virtual Learning. Paper Test Schedule: February 18-19, April 1-2, and May 6-7, Proctored paper tests are 2-hour pencil and paper examinations taken at any one of the five HACC campuses. Students are allowed to bring a scientific calculator or graphing calculator such as TI 83/84. No other electronic device (e.g. cellular phone of any brand, iphone, ipad, Droid, laptop, Apps) with computer algebra system (e.g. TI 89 graphing calculator) will be allowed. No notecards, formula sheets, and books will be allowed. 3. Students must notify the instructor when and where they will take the paper test one week before the testing period. 4. Students are expected to log on to the Virtual Learning web site to check the actual dates, times, and location at their registered campus Paper tests will be returned to online math instructors at least two days after the end of each testing period. It will take about a week to get all grading done. Graded paper tests and solutions will be sent to students by mail or Final exams will not be returned to students. They will be kept for record keeping. Students can check their course grade via HACCWeb on or after May 15, If you cannot come to one of the campus locations to take your proctored pencil and paper exam, you must notify the instructor as soon as possible. If you need an off-site proctoring arrangement, a test proctor form must be completed and mailed to the instructor for approval. The instructor will then forward the form to the Virtual Learning for the final approval two weeks prior to your requested test date(s). You can download the guidelines for securing an off-site proctor and a proctor form from the Virtual Learning web site.

5 MAKE-UP TEST POLICY ADD/DROP POLICY OTHER INFORMATON DELAYED OPENING GETTING HELP 1. There will be no make up for online tests. 2. When a student fails to take the proctored paper exam(s) during the posted testing period, no make up will be given unless the student has notified the instructor by before the start of the testing period. 3. The make-up paper test must be rescheduled and taken within one week. 4. With the instructor s permission and within the scheduled time, the student may take the make-up for the proctored paper test at the Test Center located at his/her campus during the operating hours or make arrangement for other testing facility. 5. Make-up paper tests are always harder. 6. Only one make up paper test per student per semester will be given, with no exceptions 1.
