INSTALLING PowerScribe Workstation Client Software On A System That Has Never Had PowerScribe Installed On It This document provides all authorized radiologists with instructions for installing PowerScribe Workstation Client Software version 4.7 SP1b Patch 4 on a workstation that has never had PowerScribe installed on it. Prerequisites: 1. Operating System: Windows 2000 (or above). Ensure all security patches are installed. 2. Your Microsoft Operating System must be updated with a Daylight Savings Time (DST) patch. If your workstation is configured to receive automatic updates from Microsoft you probably already have the DST patch installed on your workstation. There are numerous ways that Microsoft Windows operating systems can be patched for the DST change. Although outside of the scope of this document, Microsoft s website can be referenced as a starting point if you need additional information. Information is provided at the end of this document to get you started if you have not already applied the DST patch on your workstation. 3. Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (or above but NOT ver 7), ensure that browser support for 128-bit encryption is installed, and ensure all security patches are installed. Upgrades and patches are available at www.microsoft.com. 4. Ensure that you have administrative rights on your PC. Version 4.7 SP1b Patch 4 Client Installation Radiologist Installation Steps Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is not supported by PowerScribe Workstation software at this time. Do not install it! If Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is on your system you will need to remove it and ensure that Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or 6.5 is installed as the default browser for your workstation.
PRE-INSTALLATION TASKS 1. Depending on your operating system, browse to the specified locations: a. Windows XP - c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts b. Windows 2000 - c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts 2. Double-click the filename hosts a. You will be asked to select a program to run the program with. Choose notepad from the list and click OK.
3. The file will open and look similar to this: 4. Insert 10.47.100.210 pwrscribe05 as shown (press the tab key between the address and pwrscribe05): 5. Click File -> Save to save your changes. You can now close all open windows.
Installing PowerScribe Workstation Software Note: If you are not on the CKHS network you will need to start your VPN Connection before proceeding. 1. Connect to PowerScribe via Internet Explorer by entering the following URL. http://pwrscribe05/powerscribe The Home page for PowerScribe Workstation displays. 2. Click PowerScribe Dictation/Correction Client to begin the new software installation. The following window displays.
3. Click Install. A Security Warning displays. 4. Click Run. You are prompted to run the software. 5. Click Run.
When the installation finishes, the following displays. 6. Click Close on the InstallSysTools window. The following window displays. 7. Click Continue.
The upgrade notice displays. 8. Click Yes. A Security Warning message displays. 9. Click Run.
You are prompted to run the software. 10. Click Run. The PowerScribe Workstation Client Installation Wizard displays. 11. Click Next.
The Ready to Install the Application windows displays. 12. Click Next to begin the installation. The Files in Use window displays on top of the other Internet Explorer windows, indicating that you must close some IE windows. 13. Close PowerScribe Workstation Index window that is furthest in the background. 14. Close the PowerScribe Workstation 4.7 SP1 window directly behind the Files in Use window. 15. Click Retry.
If the following window displays, you may have other Internet Explorer Windows open that are preventing the installation from finishing. 16. Close (not minimize) any IE windows and click Retry. If all windows have been closed properly, the following window appears, indicating that the new PowerScribe software is being installed. Allow the installation time to finish.
After the installation has concluded, the following window displays. 17. Click Finish. 18. Connect to PowerScribe via Internet Explorer by entering the following URL. http://pwrscribe05/powerscribe 19. Make sure that the Client Workstation is functioning properly for the modules used on that machine (e.g., Dictation/Correction). ***End of PowerScribe Workstation Client Installation Process***
Updating the Microsoft Operating System The information below provides the Microsoft Windows operating systems supported by PowerScribe, the Microsoft KB numbers for DST update information, and the URL links for downloading the software and instructions for installing it. Choose the proper section for the operating system running on the Client Workstation. Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is not supported by PowerScribe Workstation software at this time. Do not install it! Microsoft Windows XP SP2 See Microsoft KB931836, 2007 time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating systems, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931836/en-us. Software Download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=66f1420c-df2d-400b-a8a9- EF9061A9A3CA&displaylang=en Download the exe file, read the instructions, and install it. Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 To update this operating system, you will need to download and run a utility package, TZedit.exe, which contains a Time Zone editor. See Microsoft KB914387, How to configure daylight saving time for the United States in 2007, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387. Software Download: On the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387 link, scroll down to the following heading: Method 2: Change the time zone settings on a single computer Download and install the TZedit.exe utility package from the link and follow the instructions, performing steps 1-4 (a through k) to manually modify time zone settings using the Time Zone editor. Refer to the following information when choosing dates during the modification. DST Starts: 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, e.g.: March 11, 2007 DST Ends: 2 a.m. on the fist Sunday of November, e.g., November 4, 2007 After you have modified the settings, you must perform the following for the DST change to take effect. a. Open the Control Panel and double-click the Date/Time icon.
b. Click the Time Zone tab. c. Select the (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time : Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London time zone and click Apply. Although this is not your time zone, you must choose it first and then select your correct time zone in the step below so that the change will take effect. d. Select your correct time zone and click Apply. e. Click OK.
