1 Publish Cisco VXC Manager GUI as Microsoft RDS Remote App This appendix provides a step-by-step guide to publish the Cisco Cisco VXC Manager GUI as a Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) RemoteApp application. All normal functionality of the Cisco VXC Manager GUI is available as a published application. Publishing the Cisco VXC Manager GUI using RemoteApp offers several advantages: Avoids the need to install the Cisco VXC Manager GUI on multiple computers to provide Cisco VXC Manager GUI access to additional users Makes it convenient to update the Cisco VXC Manager GUI when a new version needs to be rolled out to users by updating it on the publishing server, instead of multiple computers Makes it convenient for the central IT administrator of Cisco VXC Manager to control the number of simultaneous Cisco VXC Manager GUI sessions that are running Improves performance when using Cisco VXC Manager GUI if the RDS server and Cisco VXC Manager (server and database) are installed in the same data center with high bandwidth and low latency between them. 2 RDS Remote App Publish Cisco VXC Manager GUI as Microsoft RDS Remote App The information and steps provided in this appendix refer to specific versions of XenApp server, Cisco VXC Manager and server operating system where the former two are installed. Other versions of these software products may require different or additional information. Tested Version Enable RDS on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Install Cisco VXC Manager 4.9 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 server Install Cisco VXC Manager 4.9 GUI instance on a RDS server using domain credentials Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 Recommendations The RDS server and Cisco VXC Manager should be co-located in the same data center for publishing the Cisco VXC Manager GUI. The RDS console should be used to control the number of simultaneous Cisco VXC Manager GUI sessions that are running. Cisco VXC Manager supports a maximum of up to 35 simultaneous GUI sessions, running either as a locally installed application or as a remotely published application. The number of simultaneous GUI sessions will be limited by the available resources (including CPU, memory, disk and network) for the various Cisco VXC Manager server components, including server and database. Note ActiveX controls are required on the RDS server to publish applications. RDS does not support Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browser when accessing the Cisco VXC Manager GUI as a published application through an Internet browser, only Microsoft Internet Explorer is supported. Before testing the Cisco VXC Manager feature for adding additional users and delegated administration, ensure that the additional user has already been added in Cisco VXC Manager GUI as a user, and ensure that you are able to use the Cisco VXC Manager GUI from a locally installed Cisco VXC Manager GUI. Add the additional users to the local administrators group on the RDS server. This is a normal requirement for enabling additional users to access Cisco VXC Manager GUI. Turn off User Access Control (UAC) settings on the RDS server to access Cisco VXC Manager GUI using different users. A significant number of steps in this document are typical steps required for publishing an RDS application. They are provided here for completeness. 2

Click Roles and select Add Roles. Select the check box Remote Desktop Services and click Next. The Introduction to Remote Desktop Services screen appears; click Next. Select Roles Remote Desktop Session Host, Remote Desktop Licensing, Remote Desktop Gateway and Remote Desktop Web Access and click Next. Select Add Required Role Services for Remote Desktop Gateway. Select Add Required Role Services for Remote Desktop Web Access. The Add Roles Wizard appears; click Next. Select the radio button Do not require Network Level Authentication. The Specify Licensing Mode screen appears; select the Per Device radio button. Click Add to select the users or user group. The selected user group is added; click Next. Add the Domain Administrator. The Configure Client Experience screen appears; select the default and click Next. The Configure Discovery Scope for RD Licensing screen appears; select the default and click Next. To import the certificate for SSL encryption, click Import. The imported certificate will be displayed; select it and click Next. The Create Authorization Policies for RD Gateway screen appears; select the Now radio button and click Next. To select the users group click the Add tab, add the user groups to connect through RD Gateway, and click Next. After you add the desired user groups, click Next. On the Create an RD CAP for RD Gateway screen, select the default and click Next. On the Create an RD CAP for RD Gateway screen, select the option Allow users to connect to any computer on the network. The Network Policy and Access Services screen appears; select the default and click Next. On the Select Role Services screen, select the default Network Policy server and click Next. The Introduction to Web server IIS screen appears; select the default and click Next. The Select Role Services screen appears; select the default option and click Next. Confirm the installation and click Install. The Installation Progess screen appears. The Installation Results screen appears. Reboot the server to finish the installation. Open the RemoteApp Manager Console from the administrative tools. Click Add RemoteApp Programs on the right hand side. The RemoteApp Wizard welcome screen appears; click Next. 3

Select Cisco VXC Manager and click Next. Review the settings and click Finish. Cisco VXC Manager is now listed under RemoteApp Programs on the RemoteApp Manager screen. Enter the URL to publish Cisco VXC Manager application through Remote Desktop Services. For example: Enter the credentials to login to RDS Server. The published application will be displayed and click the Cisco VXC Manager icon to launch the application. A warning message appears; select the default and click Connect. Enter the credentials to connect to the remote application. A warning message appears; click Yes. The RemoteApp launch window appears. The Cisco VXC Manager GUI appears. Click Groups and right-click Administrators. Click Properties. Click Add. Enter the user name and click Check Names; click OK. Add the user name of the delegate administrator to the local administrator group. The selected user is displayed under administrator properties; click OK. Turn off User Access Control (UAC) settings on the RDS server to access the Cisco VXC Manager GUI under different users. Open the Control panel and click User Accounts. Click Change User Account Control settings. Turn off the User Account Control Settings and click OK. 4
