1 PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE - LOCAL MACHINE ONLY GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION Before starting the installation process on a local machine (computer or workstation), ensure that the computer you will be installing to meets the minimum system requirements for the products you intend to install. Also be sure to close all open programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and any virus detection programs. USING THE PRODUCT INSTALL WIZARD TO INSTALL TO A LOCAL MACHINE Complete a local workstation installation 1. Close all open programs, including any virus detection programs. 2. Access Checkpoint: 3. From Checkpoint s Search screen, select PPC Install/Update in the GO TO area of the left navigation pane: 2013 Thomson Reuters/PPC. All rights reserved.

3 7. Click Run on the File Download Security Warning dialog screen. Note: You may need to add ppc.thomsonreuters.com.edgesuite.net as a trusted site. 8. Verify that Thomson Reuters (Tax & Accounting) Services Inc. appears next to Publisher on the Internet Explorer - Security Warning dialog screen and click Run. The Welcome to the Product Install Wizard screen will prompt you to select an installation type (Install to Local Machine or Administrative Install). Your PPC account number and Checkpoint account number (if applicable) default in the appropriate fields. PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE 3

4 9. Select Install to Local Machine to install directly to a local computer. Notes: If you have logged in from Checkpoint, the Checkpoint (CHKPT) Acct. # associated with your user name will display automatically by default. The Download Only option is intended for advanced users who want to configure the database and application installations for SMART Practice Aids. (For more information about Download Only, please refer to the SMART Practice Aids Client/Server Installation Guide.) 10. 5 11. Select the products you want to install. PPC s SMART Practice Aids Single Audit. An additional database (named SPS) is available for storing your single audit engagements: This comprehensive technology application walks you through the entire Single Audit process. You will be able to use this automated solution to reduce errors and to comply with increased complexity, more frequently changing rules, and an increased number of major programs in existing single audits. 6 Installing PPC s SMART Practice Aids from a DVD? 12. Enter the access codes (from your invoice) for any SMART Practice Aids modules you want to install. Retrieve the required access codes for your purchased SMART Practice Aid modules either from your invoice (in the Description section) or on the separate notice that accompanied your DVD. Then insert the SMART Practice Aids DVD into the appropriate drive. To resume your installation, scroll down to the Thomson Reuters Setup Installation Type screen at Step Click Next. 6 PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE

7 14. Check to see that the applicable install locations are set appropriately. Default locations are provided for Checkpoint Tools for PPC templates and SMART Practice Aids. If you need to change the Template Folder Location or SMART Practice Aids install location, click the Browse button and select a new drive or folder, or type in the correct path. Note: All PPC SMART Practice Aid modules must be installed in the same folder. Hint: If you are using ProSystem fx Engagement, be sure to change the template location, as needed, for your installation of ProSystem fx Engagement. Example: C:\Pfx Engagement\WM\Workpaper Templates. 15. After you have set all needed locations, click Next. PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE 7

8 16. Read the License Agreements for the selected products and accept them by selecting the check box next to each license listed. 17. Click Install to continue the installation of the selected products. 18. The Download Manager dialog screen will indicate the progress of the download for each of the selected products and any required components. (This process may take several minutes, depending on the network conditions and the number of products you have selected.) 8 PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE

9 If not already present, the following prerequisite items will be installed for PPC s SMART Practice Aids Risk Assessment: Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with SP2 PPC Data Management Viewer 64-Bit Shell Extension - for 64-bit systems only Note: Once the downloads have completed successfully, the individual product and component installations will continue automatically, and you will see a progress bar for each product/component: If SQL Server Express needs to be installed, you can follow the progress of the configuration of the components: PPC S SMART PRACTICE AIDS END USER INSTALLATION GUIDE 9

10 Upon completion of the product installations, if any Checkpoint Tools titles were selected, a message will appear to remind you that the products use macros. If you are a new user to Checkpoint Tools or have recently upgraded your Office version, please refer to the FAQ on macro security on our website at to ensure you have the proper settings. 19. Click OK to acknowledge the message. After the last component is configured, the installation process is complete, and the following screen displays a list of the installed products: 20. 11 22. Double click the PPC s SMART Practice Aids icon on your desktop to open the application: PPC s SMART Practice Aids opens. In the top right, notice which database server the application is connected to.
