Frequently Asked Questions Q: Who has access to view my stored documents and files in the cloud? A: When you create an account, only you can view your information saved in the cloud. Sharing of IDs and passwords is highly discouraged as anyone logging in would have full viewing access to your stored documents. If, for example, you create an account for conference attendees to use, they will all have access to shared documents in the cloud (agenda, map of the building and surrounding area, marketing materials, video, etc.). After the conference you can simply disable or delete the account. Q: How do I know if the upload or download was successful? A: The mobile device will serve information as it is requested by the user. Users can use the Refresh menu item to update the data if necessary. Q: Do I have to pull the document locally to read it? Can I read it directly from the cloud? A: You must download the document locally first in order to view it. You cannot view remote documents in the cloud. Q: How long do the locations stick around? A: The AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service app has a fine-tuned algorithm for dropping pins. If you're moving frequently, it will drop pins regularly, and will also delete the older pins. Q: How long do my documents remain in the cloud? A: There is no expiration date. Documents can remain in the cloud as long as you wish. Uploaded documents and media assets are automatically replicated to a second Synaptic Storage site to ensure availability. Q: How are documents put into the cloud? A: Documents can only be uploaded to the cloud from the portal. However, they can be downloaded, viewed and shared from your mobile device. Users have full control of what documents through the portal, including deleting. Q: I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and logged into my account. I'm confused by what I see. I had multiple accounts and the other accounts I had added are gone. I noticed the media assets I had loaded previously were still there, both in the local and cloud folders. Is this the way it's supposed to be? A: Yes. If you uninstall and reinstall, all associations between the mobile device and cloud storage are cleared, and you need to log in again to your account or multiple accounts. If you had previously downloaded media assets from the cloud to your camera roll, those will not be deleted. We won't keep track of and wipe media assets from a device's camera roll. 11
Conclusion Now that you've familiarized yourself with the core features, learn about more advanced features in the Configuration Guide. For example, mobile devices differ from traditional computers in that mobile devices have hard and fast constraints on screen real estate, memory and battery. The Configuration Guide will give you insights about how to configure the app for better performance, or how to download assets from the cloud only when the device is charging or on WiFi (to avoid excessive use of data plans), etc. If you have questions or requested feature enhancements, please refer to the Technical Support. The app is offered as a free download.
