Configuring Microsoft Outlook for First Time Use with POP3 email provided by Blue Tangerine Solutions Step 1 Open Outlook if this is your first time using Outlook, then you will be launched into the Startup Wizard (Figure 1), Click Next> and proceed to step 2. If you do not get the wizard, and are instead launched into your Inbox or your Outlook dashboard, then you should refer to the document entitled Configuring Additional Outlook Email Account. Figure 1
Step 2 Account Configuration Outlook prompts you to verify that you wish to configure an email account. (Figure 2) Click Next> Figure 2
Step 3 Choose E mail Service Outlook prompts you to choose which type of e mail service you would like to use. Insure that the Internet E mail radial button is selected. (Figure 3) Click Next> to proceed. Figure 3
Step 4 Auto Account Setup You will need to manually configure your email account to work with Blue Tangerine Solutions e mail service, so check the box for Manually configure server settings or additional server types. (Figure 4) Click Next> to proceed. Figure 4
Step 5 Internet E mail Settings In this window, you will fill out the fields using the information you received from Blue Tangerine Solutions. Keep in mind that the entry you put in Your Name is the name that is seen by people who receive email from you, including case sensitivity. Be sure to fill out every field, and select POP3 for Account Type. DO NOT check the box for Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) (Figure 5) Click on More Settings to proceed. Note: NOTE: Your User Name will be your FULL E mail address. Figure 5
Step 6 Internet Email Settings Click on the Outgoing Server Tab and check the box for My server (SMTP) requires authentication Insure that the radial button for Use same settings as my incoming mail server is checked. (Figure 6) Click on the Advanced Tab to continue. Figure 6
Step 7 Internet E mail settings Advanced Check the box under Incoming server (POP3) that says This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) In the box next to Incoming server (POP3), type in 995. Next to Use the following type of encrypted connection: drop the box down and choose SSL, which should automatically enter the number 465 in the field next to Outgoing Server(SMTP) (Figure 7) Click OK to continue. NOTE: This tab can look significantly different from one version of Outlook to another, in every case you will need to check the box requiring SSL or Secure/Encrypted Connection and enter the correct Port Numbers POP3 uses 995 and SMTP uses 465. Step 8 Internet E mail Settings You should be back on the screen where you entered your username, password, and server names. (Figure 5) Click on the Test Account Settings button. You will get a pop up window that tests your logon to the mail server, and tests your ability to send mail. A successful test will show a green checkmark next to each process.(figure 8) Sometimes it takes a few seconds to complete the tests. Click Close to close the Test Account Settings Window. If your tests were not successful, you will need to go back and review steps 5, 6, and 7 to verify that you have entered the information you received for your account precisely as you got it from Blue Tangerine Solutions. Passwords are case sensitive, and punctuation is important. If your tests were successful, then click on Next to proceed. Figure 8
Step 9 Congratulations! You will get the congratulations message that you have successfully setup your account.(figure 9) Click Finish to continue. Figure 9
Step 10 Inbox As a final test, click the Send/Receive button, which will force Outlook to pull any mail you have waiting on the server and attempt to send any email you have waiting to go out. (Figure 10) Immediately after clicking send/receive, you will see a window pop open that shows your progress on the tasks of sending and receiving mail. (Figure 11) After a few seconds, both tasks should show a progress of Completed, and earn a green Check Mark to indicate they were successful. If you do not show completed, close the window and attempt this step a second time. If you get two failures in a row, you should go to the manual entitled Configuring Additional Outlook Email Account. Follow the instructions, and verify you entered all information correctly. If your tasks did complete successfully, then you have configured your Outlook properly, congratulations, and happy E mailing!! Figure 10
