What is an Advanced Master or Mastère Spécialisé? Mastère Spécialisé or Advanced Master is a postmaster s program created by the French Conférence des Grandes Écoles, which conferred this collective trademark on Engineering or business schools. Advanced master is a full-time, one-year program including theoretical lectures, tutorials, case studies, internship, and individual professional thesis. It is usually aimed at students or professionals who already have a Master s degree, which would like either to specialise or expand their knowledge and experience in an advanced domain where the industry has identified genuine needs. Advanced Masters delivered by ENAC provide attendees with cutting-edge knowledge and know-how in specific domains to strengthen graduates employability in the worldwide and amazing aeronautics and civil aviation world. Facing with new challenges, companies increasingly seek experts with strong engineering and management foundations, which can create value, develop innovation with solid managerial issues. With its Advanced Masters, ENAC would provide worldwide aviation market with experts with global view as well as awareness of complexity and technology competitiveness. Air transport depends on high-tech sectors such as aeronautics and space, related to computing, electronics and the management of complex systems. Human factors are also playing a growing important role in achieving the permanent goal of increased levels of safety. Air transport organisations including airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers as well as Air Navigation Service Providers have been faced for a number of decades with growing financial and economic constraints, not to mention an operational environment which is in a state of continual evolution, all of which require a considerable amount of adaptability. All ENAC s Advanced Master are wholly taught in English.

4 Advanced Masters Aviation Safety Aircraft Airworthiness With the support of Aibus and the manufacturing industry Content and objectives Aircraft airworthiness must be considered as a coherent process running from the design of the aircraft to the monitoring of its technical condition in airline service. The Advanced Master in Aircraft Airworthiness covers both the technical aspects of certification and the legal and economic implications. This course has been designed to give future managers a broad understanding of the issues and priorities which, as far as aeronautical construction is concerned, have an international dimension. Air transport deregulation and the development of a global economy necessarily imply an increase in vigilance on behalf of both the regulatory authorities and the industry. Progress regarding safety has been constant. In the last 20 years, the accident rate per flight hour has been reduced by a factor of 10. This is becoming insufficient due to the considerable increase in traffic. Current trends should encourage us to make even more improvements, and this necessarily involves training. The Advanced Master in Aircraft Airworthiness will provide future operators with the key to success in times to come. Advanced Masters Air-Ground Collaborative Systems Engineering 6Content and objectives Nowadays, the main actor in air traffic is the aircraft itself, what is now monitored by both the air navigation service providers and by the airlines. Air navigation service providers ensure air traffic management (ATM) and guarantee air traffic safety, punctuality and coherence between all activities in the airspace, including military activities. On the other hand, airlines monitor the operations of their own aircraft, and adjust in real time the flight schedule and the allocation of aircraft and crew to recover from unexpected events. Due to growth of air traffic, the main needs of air navigation service providers and airlines include maintaining or even increasing flight safety, increasing the airspace capacity, improving flight punctuality and ensuring adequate return on investment. A higher cooperation between aircraft, air navigation service providers and airlines through new avionics systems is a way to tackle those needs. Avionics encompasses all the electronic systems on board of an aircraft, which contribute to the functions of piloting, navigation, communication and surveillance. Today, avionics challenge is to adapt to the aircraft changing environment. The purpose of the advanced master in Air- Ground Collaborative Systems Engineering is to provide to the student with in-depth and comprehensive knowledge in systems engineering and applications dedicated to aircraft, air traffic control and air-ground integration. Professional prospects and career opportunities The Advanced Master in Air-Ground Collaborative Systems Engineering educates graduates for employment in the aeronautical sectors of avionics, embedded systems and ATM integration. The main companies concerned are: Avionics systems manufacturers, ATM systems manufacturers, System integrators, Airlines, Aeronautical telecoms companies, Services and counseling companies Targeted jobs are, at first, systems engineers in the field of avionics or ATM integration, leading later to positions as project leaders. First of all, the subject: safety and certification have always been subjects I wanted to know about to get an overview of aircraft design as well as the operational, maintenance and production sectors. Secondly, I had heard a lot of good things about the ENAC and the ISAC from my colleagues, about the excellent standard and relevance of the training programmes and the opportunities for work in the industry. I am very happy, because this Masters was everything I expected on two levels - educational and the career opportunities. In more concrete terms, what have you got out of this Masters? And what fundamental things did you learn that you can use now to be operational? Sound experience not only in safety and certification matters, but also in other areas, such as international aircraft design, operations, production and maintenance... This means I can share technical knowledge in many areas. On the operational side, knowing about maintenance, the regulations and the authorities requirements has been especially useful during my period of adjustment. Can you tell us about your job at Airbus? I am managing and developing a project to optimise maintenance. The aim is to improve the maintenance programme by using the data collected more efficiently. The goal is to improve operational reliability while reducing our customers maintenance costs.
