4 NEW STUDIES MODEL THE NEW STUDIES MODEL The new studies model at SRH University Heidelberg offers students and professors wider scope in shaping certain facets of a course of study. Two central aspects constitute the main focus of the model: building student competencies as the primary objective of a Bologna-style university and adjusting the respective learning objectives, courses and forms of testing to meet the demands of a later career. We aim to achieve this by: Systematically implementing the competencies model Introducing teaching and learning methods that activate students Adopting skills-oriented forms of testing Instruction in 5-week blocks, each focusing on one central theme Intensive counselling in academic, organisational and personal issues 4

6 Master Information Technology 5-week blocks focusing on one central theme Our academic year is divided into eight 5-week blocks. In each block, two parallel classes at the most may be taken. For the entire duration of studies, these blocks build on each other with regard to content. Studies begin with a 14-day introductory module. 9 Teaching and learning methods that activate students What you learn only becomes really tangible if you become active yourself only then can it be reflected in all dimensions. To ensure that your knowledge remains firmly anchored in your memory, we emphasize the practical right from the start, and you learn to work as you would in real life: through case studies, project work, group work and presentations. Skills-oriented forms of testing Our skills-oriented tests are tailored optimally to the skills you are expected to acquire. From a variety of testing options such as project reports, study logs or essays, we choose the one best suited to the topic. Depending on the module, tests take place during or at the end of a course or parallel to the course. This means that multiple examinations packed into a limited time window are a thing of the past. Academic and personal support We are there for you all through your studies both on the academic side and for personal or organisational matters! From the very beginning of your studies, there are always mentors and tutors on hand to help and advise you. In addition to this, you will receive coaching on a one-to-one basis and competent counselling from our Career Service. This support also applies after you finish your studies and continues after graduation in the form of the Alumni Club. 9

The current tuition fees can be found on our website, Confirmed quality For cars, you have regular, official vehicle inspection procedures. In Germany, the same applies to accreditation for private universities. In 2009, the German Science Council granted the SRH University Heidelberg accreditation as an official institution for another 10 years. Ways of funding Besides the classic German BAFöG grant, there are numerous other ways to finance your studies. We can advise you as to which of the following models might be a possibility for you: BAföG Studies loan from the KfW Group (subsidies bank) Student educational fund Scholarship programs Networks & practice We cooperate with a wide range of companies and our teaching is practice-oriented. Field trips provide support on site for your impressions. However, during your studies you also learn to work scientifically and to incorporate and realize your ideas in projects. 14 Study abroad! Anyone who wants to experience the culture and language of another country should study abroad. A semester or internship abroad considerably increases your chances of success when applying for a job. We offer options that range from semesters and internships abroad to doctoral studies. Our information events inform students about the opportunities and requirements. At the moment, approximately 30% of our students spend time abroad during their studies.
